yeah that carriage is so cool!

the only thing i don't love about the merpeople is that mermaids are mostly wearing pink...the merman (the young prince) should've definately come out in a different color...he's too similar to Neptune
Enjoy the elegance and fun of 1900 with The Victorians photo story! :gent: ;D :sherlock:

Well, and long sleeves on mermaids seem a little odd. They need bikini tops. But we can always customize, right?

What a shop like that could do is find out what the chains are carrying and then just get in stock what the chain stores don't have and market it that way so they are not directly competing and can even ride on the chains' "coat tails" if advertised properly.

Yes, and I was thinking about that also. I know off the top of my head exactly what target carries, which is now only the US exclusives (read: cheapo), and I know what lines TRU is carrying and can even probably predict what they will carry in the future, so it would be easy to point out what sets might have success if carried in this store. For instance, I talked to a man in TRU the other day who had seen the playmobil hospital online and was hoping to find it in store. Our local TRU has never carried that line, so it might be a good one. TRU also doesn't have the knights, farm, pony ranch, or the really good fairy tale, police, or fire sets. All of those would be good candidates. It remains to be seen whether our local TRU will carry the 5302 and company or the agents, but if not, those two lines are dynamite, especially for a rather upscale shop.

I have seen 5302s in 5 different TRU in 3 states... but NO top agents there yet... which seems odd to me  ???
Someday, I will organize my stuff, I promise.

My heart goes out to all the small specialty shops that sold only toys or books or greeting cards that have been run out of business by the large chain stores. Can you imagine losing everything you own due to bankruptcy caused by competition from the large chains?
While we dearly loved Borders bookstore, which is now gone after a long, drawn out death march, it did put several local book stores out of business.

We are so lucky to have a small independent toystore, Science Safari, doing well in our neighborhood. They carry the full PM line and seem to do well. Our TRU has about half of Science Safari's merchandise and discounts it often...20-25%. Our TRU has only half of one long display of PM, so there it is a very small part of TRU's inventory. It seemed as if they stocked more PM before the recent remodel.

I like the strategy of helping out a small store by offering to buy certain PM in advance and fronting them the money to meet the minimum purchase to get started with PM. It sounds like a win-win situation. I would be surprised if that minimum order is less than $1,000.

It would be terrible if all the small toystores went out of business. Let's do more brainstorming to help them survive, Pgal
After two decades of male toys (esp. Lego and PM) in our house, it is time to build something for us women!

I know...I get chills down my spine when I think of all the independent shops in the US that have gone out of business in the last 15 years....so sad.  :-\  And what's even more sad is that it will only get even more difficult to find old, long-retired sets since the stores that once housed them are becoming a thing of the past.

Very true, Robbie. We don't have any TRU's in our town, but it's only a matter of time...
Most of the Playmobil I get locally is from Simply Wonderful toys. It has the usual, but I was happy to see the 3240 zoo sitting on the shelf!

I guess the same is true for nl with independents hardly exsisting anymore...although we do have a coulpe of secondhand playmo only stores (which for some reason I have never visited)

If you can convince them to carry PM again maybe you can help them with a festive relaunch including a diorama and maybe display part of your diorama in the store window. this might attract some extra customers.

Also US stores can carry the DS catelogue line that is also a bonus they have over TRU and other big chains right?

Good luck with your planning stage!
