That sounds like the typical Disney Company antics.

It would be great if Playmobil would re-issue this set, perhaps with the new-style horse.

Hello

Well lets not forget that when we point a finger there are always 3 pointing back at ourself. Geobra is a company that guards its trademarks quite well. If we were to use any of their images in a profit manner I am sure we would be getting a "cease and desist" order from Geobra's law department

I do not agree with it and all the copy rights but it is just the way it is, not the way we want it to be.

Perhaps now that Disney's rights are gone we should ask Geobra to reissue this set, with club powers  <:>

That is really interesting, Gary!  I never knew about the Disney angle.  Your comments inspired me to do a little research and it appears that the Disney copyright license has expired and control of the mountie image is now back with Canada's RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police.)  Here are a couple of news links that tell the story:

Story from CBC's digital archive
Newer Story from CBC

Prehaps Playmobil will now approach the RCMP for permission to re-issue the mountie!    :crossed:

Very interesting links Anne!

I hadn't realised that the Disney license expired nearly 10 years ago.  Clearly there's more to Playmobil's reluctance to reissue this set, maybe just their reluctance to enter into licensing agreements with the RCMP directly.

They could easily re-use the parts in different figures and let collectors put them together if they so wished.

In Geobra's defense, I never would have thought a copyright on something like that uniform even existed!  Now I'm wondering if the Roman legionary costume or the Union American Civil War uniform has a copyright!  I'm all for patent and copyright laws on intellectual property and I could see if Geobra had made an unlicensed Mickey Mouse klicky, but making an item of historical clothing "intellectual property" is a bit of a stretch here, in my opinion.  In addition to Disney's rapaciousness, I suppose I also have a problem with the RCMP even applying for a copyright and those who granted such a copyright.  Frankly, I'm surprised Disney hasn't sued Playmobil for producing its Magic Castle theme, as I'm sure Disney thinks it infringes upon the "Magic Castle" copyright, which they no doubt have.  The owners of Neuschwanstein should sue Disney! ::)

Hardly historical clothing, Justin, the RCMP still wear this uniform! That's why they got fed up with people trading in on their image.

Yes, but does a copyright exist on the uniforms represented in Playmobil's police and firemen klickies or the Royal Guard Special?  These are all currently worn as well.
