It's supposed to be on the right side ("starboard" side), but the real issue is that they are snugged up to the base of the barrel, when they should be at or very near the tip.

I actually missed the one in the third picture, yes that's even more wrong with the bayonet on top like that.   >:(

I feel like I'm a kid with crayons criticizing Rembrandt though!  ;D

Ah, ok...  I never seem to be able to remember the correct position (but I DID look up that thread for the figures review!)

The bayonet-question arises again and again. I usually fix them the way Playmobil does ... in the end it's just a toy and not real life. Sometimes I seem to break my own rules (picture 3).
