Title: North and South
Post by: specialist on September 10, 2018, 06:12:34
Inspired by General Bragg's "Southern Belles"-Thread over at klickywelt, the TV series "North and South" and a book by André Jouineau this is my version of the ACW in 80 sets.

Awesome!

I LOVE North and South, both the books and the series (series only counts book 1+2, since that 3rd one.. well...)

They look great, I particularly like the one with busby and blue cuffs. It's interesting that the grey uniform and flag of the confederacy were inspired by the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Many very nice ones!  8-)
The fur hat from the English Guard, is that an artistical freedom or did they wear that in the US at the time of the ACW ?

Known in England as a "Busby" btw.

I'd not heard of US busbies before either, a little goggling about turned up a few references, this link has a nice pic proving the case: http://www.jamesmountainantiques.com/product/troy-new-york-militiaman-in-busby-civil-war-veteran/

The figures wearing the busbies are based on existing units. The one with the blue trousers is the Chicago Light Guard....the other one I would have to look up.

Today some civilians.

Your work never ceases to dazzle and amaze, specialist.  :thanks:

HOWEVER...the bayonets in that fourth image are affixed wrongly. It's like finding a mouse in a delicious soup!  :'(

???  I thought that was correct? Under the rifle?

The third is what I thought was wrong (though I've put them like that.. well.. always  :-[ )   8}

It's supposed to be on the right side ("starboard" side), but the real issue is that they are snugged up to the base of the barrel, when they should be at or very near the tip.

I actually missed the one in the third picture, yes that's even more wrong with the bayonet on top like that.   >:(

I feel like I'm a kid with crayons criticizing Rembrandt though!  ;D

Ah, ok...  I never seem to be able to remember the correct position (but I DID look up that thread for the figures review!)

The bayonet-question arises again and again. I usually fix them the way Playmobil does ... in the end it's just a toy and not real life. Sometimes I seem to break my own rules (picture 3).

Thanks for showing, specialist. I have to confess: I do not like Reifröcke, period, but there is still lots to admire in this thread.
