« on: November 26, 2016, 19:03:18 »
Saw this on THAT site..

Is it real?

Tag says Hamleys, 7 GBP (stupid price at least is likely, right?)

Tahra,
If the attachment actually works from my cell phone, you can see that the early Playpeople police helmet is a bit different from the one on the "new" London police officer (9237).
Also, the "9237" London policeman is not listed on Hamley's online site. (Of course, it might be a regional offering from Hamley's that's for sale only in the U.K.)
If it's listed on the PCC, it's real. Now that Horst, Andrea and Judith are gone, there's no one left for me to ask.
Regardless, I prefer the original Playmobil helmet created by Louis Marx for Playpeople.
All the best,
Richard

The question was passed on to Klickywelt, where Rotrock and I at once replied: No.

Rotrock refers to the colour of helmet and jacket looking quite hand-painted. My first impression also was thouse colours do look strange, even though I can't tell exactly why.

Apart from that the background (a real world picture) is quite un-playmobilish and the set number gives no concludent result when googled. And finally I'm quite sure I've seen this image before. Must have been some years ago and if I'm not mistaken it then was declared "self made".

Wouldn't the slightly different helmet be a clue for taking 9237 as a genuine article, though?

Andi,
Thanks for the Facebook links.
The helmet does not look like it was made from the same plastic as the Playmobil figure. Also, the helmet is not the same colour as the Playmobil figure.
It looks like "Ruben Ferreira" went to a lot of trouble to pretend that this was a "real" Playmobil set.
All the best,
Richard

Well... I think it's real... And I will want a couple. Shame it wasn't a couple of weeks ago. Had friends going to London for Europe.

If it's a fake.. AMAZING WORK!  :P

Playmobil does use real world backgrounds for exclusives though such as the recent 'Heinrich der Löwe' and Goethe sets.
