Problem with Playmobil email attachment
« on: October 28, 2013, 15:11:29 »
I just received an email from Playmobil with details of the Playmobil Birthday Club October offer.  There was an attachment with it, but this had been removed by a virus scanner and the following message added to the email:

Warning: This message has had one or more attachments removed (OCTOBER BIRTHD.pdf). Please read the "managedapps-av01-Attachment-Warning.txt" attachment(s) for more information.

Opening the warning text referred to in the message it said the following:

This is a message from the MailScanner E-Mail Virus Protection Service
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The original e-mail attachment "OCTOBER BIRTHD.pdf"
is on the list of unacceptable attachments for this site and has been
replaced by this warning message.

Due to limitations placed on us by the Regulation of Investigatory Powers
Act 2000, we were unable to keep a copy of the original attachment.

At Mon Oct 28 13:18:40 2013 the virus scanner said:
MailScanner: Attempt to hide real filename extension (OCTOBER BIRTHD.pdf)

I've passed the information on to Playmobil UK for them to folow yup, but I wonder if any one else has had this happen.

I suspect purely on the basis of the name.

It  seems that your scanner found an "attempt to hide real filename extension" and flagged it for that. Perhaps they tried to make it more user-friendly by naming the file something east to read and accidentally messed with the PDF extension.
