Fort Eagle + Fort Reno

This weekend I set up my two forts, Eagle (3023) and Reno (4072). I would like to combine them, to see how big fort that would make.

This was the result. I think it looks all right. There is room for horses or artillery in the corners. One might almost get a covered wagon inside, and it has a little space to maneuver.

I rebuild the tower from Fort Reno, so that the window with escape bars, now face into the compound, and not face the outside of the fort.

Unfortunately, there were plenty of leftovers.

The spare gate is hard to implement in the new fort, since I don't have enough wall sections to match the opposite wall. This was a bit annoying, since the gate is quite wide and would enlarge the fort considerable. Also, I always imagined a fort should be next to the sea, a river or a lake. One gate should face the fields around and be used as main gate. The other gate should face the water, and be used for getting fresh water and extra exit in order to break out of a siege. But not in my fort 

As you can see, I got several "wall of logs, system X, 1 unite wide" (30 20 6390) and "Wall of logs, corner connector" (30 20 6400) that could not be used. The problem was I only had one "Wall of logs, connector" (30 20 6420), and needed at least two for each 1-unit-wide-wall I would like to use in the fort, since adding a unit, demands an equal unit on the opposite walls.

Is DS still selling parts to these forts? With five connectors, and a few more straight "Platform, rectangular, wooden" (30 21 1580) I could make the fort even larger

That looks like a really great Fort hope you can find the bits you need to make it bigger and I can't wait to hopefully see it filled with some troops

Great fort, I like it. You can also use parts from others themes with system x (if you have) to make your fort bigger. I don't have the Eagle fort, I have only the Reno and I made this building here with others parts of my collection:



I can connect this, with my Reno fort and make it bigger. You can try that.

I have a fort, old style and i have seen a lot of western movies. i have never seen a fort near by water. they are all in desert. i haven't seen a tree by, neither. castles are near water, because in europe usually there is more rain and consequently water than south states like texas. but that's only my opinion...

That's only Hollywood stereotypes, though. Not all of the west is desert. There's fertile grasslands, forests, mountains, depending on where you are. Realistically, being near water is a good idea.

Btw, in Drums Along the Mohawk, the fort is by a forest, though that isn't exactly a western movie, earlier time period.

Similar forts where used in earlier periods too, it might work nicely with some redcoats as well.

A lot of them were near water. Actually, you'd have to have water close by to survive, though they might not have been right outside the gate. Again, as someone said, forts were everywhere in the US. Fort Dearborn was in what is now downtown Chicago, right at Michigan avenue and the river, a few blocks from the lake.
