was making a samurai mask but stopped to take a picture, midway:
-
was wondering whether to put this as a "the making of.." thread but reckon its nothing difficult, so before I spray his mempo lacquer red or black, here's a new mask;
-
   he looks like Hannibal Lecter
the result is super great!!! Fantastic!!!
-
So, cheng, your customs involve the forcible restraint of your klickies! :o
-
LOL!
Very cool mask Cheng! :wow:
You are tempting me, which is not fair because the mempo was not in early period. ;)
-
Very neat mask :)9
-
one of the best in my opinion , he look very very realistic !!
-
thanks for your encouraging words Playmofriends...I shall go on...
-
   he looks like Hannibal Lecter
lol... I was thinking the same thing!
The detail in all of your work is fantastic!

..and Gaspodfreud! thanks for the link, I'm so happy to see another samurai-customiser, and he tempts me with his naginata(pole-arm) and I also have been wanting to do something about our PM bows to make them look more japanese like he has done :)
-
it's a pleasure if i can help you a bit cheng but your asian are still the best for me !!
-
thanks again Gaspodfreud!
and to share with everyone, here are 2 more masks made over 2 weekends :P
-
WHat tool are you using cheng? for making these cuts? very delicate work!!! :o
-
Magnificent Job Cheng! :wow: :wow: :wow:
They look too good for words!
I cannot wait to show you my Samurai, they should be here soon!!! :prays: :(o): :wall:
-
thanks Wolf Knight !
...I'm using finger-powered drill bits :-[
(I cant find any cheap power drills here, and a jeweler's drill bed would have to be specially ordered and cost a bomb...just to drill once in a few months :P
thanks WoT and I'm visualising an army of those new samurai(s) and very keen to seen how you have personalized them!! ;)
-
Power drill... good to know. Still, its a delicate work... do you open the holes and then you trim them with another tool to give them the shape you want? or is there a tip of the drill that makes the shape you need?
-
if i had a power drill with an adjustable bed(clamps/holders and all ;D), I'll just drill into one corner of the 'mouth' and slowly move it across to his other corner...and proceed to make another 10 ;D
but what I did was drill the 3 holes (ala Hannibal Lecter) then join the 3 holes with a very sharp and pointed blade (you need very good eyes and very steady hands to hold and cut this piece of 'jewel' :P
caution all boys & girls: dont even ask mom/dad to do this unless they have been doing this for years...
-
Thanhs for all the info! :) ... and the word or caution ;D

Always better to do it yourself, unless they are professionals.
Cause other people won't want it to succeed like you do.

They won't look much like my Samurai general. :-[
He is special. ;D

 Well, that's missing the point!

What? I did? :eh?:

I think he meant kids, don't try this at home, and maybe your parents shouldn't even try it at home. :P

Do you mean 'pin vise' (http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=41753&cat=1,180,42337&ap=1 (http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=41753&cat=1,180,42337&ap=1)) or actually just holding the bits in your fingers themselves?
-
thanks bonniebeth! even us experts sometimes get careless and we know how inconvenient when we get a bad cut on our finger tips..(not to mention the pain :P)

holding and twirling the bit itself....very sore for the forefinger (i might be ambidextrous but still prefer using my right hand for precision work ;) )
and leaves a permanently rough patch on my forefinger...unless I do drill for the next 12 months
....and thanks for the link WM! if I see this in our DIY shops, I'll definitely get one ;) (I do have a similar holder but its claws are over-sized for thicker screw-driver 'bits' and wont grip a tiny drill bit properly even if wrapped in a collar/tube)

What id you wrapped the end of the bit in tape until you had the right thickness?
WOW! All by hand! I could never be that patient. ;D
-

   I know, I know, just have to say it for legal reasons. ::)
-
They look really fearsome, cheng, even at 1:24!
-
thanks dear Gordon & BB!
What id you wrapped the end of the bit in tape until you had the right thickness?
that wont work, WoT, the soft tapes will allow the drill bit to 'wobble'/bend out of its axis...imagine the tip of your drill bit tracing a planet's path :P
WOW! All by hand! I could never be that patient. ;D
that's because you're making an army of them...I did say "dont ask your parents to help you cut..." but I didnt say you cant ask them to help you drill ;D
-
I see, then tape is definitely no good.
Ahh, true... ;D
They can't screw that up! And since it goes so slowly,
if they do begin to you can stop them before they cause real damage!
Good luck on your next trials Cheng my friend.
-
i wonder now how you will do better ..... it's so perfect !! the 3 last one are fabulous !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
