If your house were burning down, and all people, pets, and other important things were safely out of the house, but not yet the playmobil toys, and you had only time to grab ONE playmobil toy to save on the way out, WHICH one would you save?
In other words, which is your MOST FAVOURITE playmobil toy to you? and why? I'd first like to know which ONE thing you would save, be it a vehicle, a set, or a single klicky. It has to be something you can grab quickly on the way out of a raging fire!
Afterwards, just for variety sake, let's have your top pick in the following categories, even if it's something you might not be able to grab in a hurry (like a castle which will fall apart into several pieces):
1. most valued set
2. most valued vehicle or small edifice
3. most valued klicky
For me, I would save my customized 3286 Pirate ship (the Black Pearl) because I put so much time and effort into customizing it.
If I could save an entire set, it would be my 3268 Castle, though the system x castle would most likely fall apart and could not be carried out in one piece :(
If I had to save a single klicky, it would be a tossup between my customized Jack Sparrow and my special "Captain's Wife" (tan-skinned pirate woman with orange hat and pearl neclace).
Of the three (the set, the vehicle, the klicky), were I only given the choice of one thing, it would be my BlackPearl pirate ship :D
What one thing would you save?
-
Great topic! I've actually often contemplated this, strangely enough. Realistically, the thing I could quickly grad that i would probably grab is a very small divided box that has all my favorite klickys in it. It's small and on top of the pile, has a carrying handle.
But as for the other three:
1. The set I would grab? This one: http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3015 It took me a long time to find at a reasonable price, and I really love it. (subject to change)
2. The small thing I would grab, probably my bronzed elephant. Or if it should be something not custom, the bison. My favorite playmobil animal EVER.
3. Favorite klicky. That's a REALLY tough one. Maybe my special edition commemorative 9/11 FDNY firefighter. There's some irony in that, isn't there?
----EDIT----
or my pharoah, or the little servant with the feather fan. Or my avatar.
-
Its hard to say what one thing I would save especially when my whole collection is right by the window and small enough to move all at once. I would have to say all or nothing.
but if Im force to chose I'll have to say my swat mobile command center. that is because it is my first custom and it also almost always has my three favorite klicky (my swat team).
-
I wouldn't have time to save any Playmobil! With lizard's, a turtle, & cats to rescue, they would take priority! I'd sacrifice all of my PCIAFD 3526's, 3551 trawler, ocean exploration collection, & customs for them!
-
Lizards ;D I would do the same

Mr. Bill you are such a hero! In your case you have SEVERAL customs and would be hard to save them all! I love your firetrucks! Of the other items you listed my personal favourite would be the trawler.
-
Yeah, I would be trying to throw my birds out the window, even though they would probably already be dead from the smoke.
-
Well the appartment is rather small... I'd just grab Isis (my cat) and run... I don't think I can choose among any of my playmobil... :-[
-
but I meant which playmobil would you save if all people, PETS, and important things were already out and safe from the fire. Of course we'd all save our family and pets first!
-
...sorry, I really cannot choose... probably a 3315 knight, or the merry men's feast (still sealed in its original box ;D)...
Nope, now that I can think about it better, the old police helicopter...the one I still have from my childhood...and the old green police van...or the old police car...and the playmospace station...and... I' m probably dead by now right? ;D
-
None. I’d save the kids, then the pets.
-
First I'd have to save, Avie, Flatcat and Lizzie. I know they're not worth much compared to others, but they mean a lot to me
Then secondly, my most prized Playmobil, which are 2 custom fire engines made by Gordon. These are my most treasured pieces (along with the guys)
Damo :)
-
Strangely enough I have a Playmoplan in case of catastrophe.
But to be true to the thread, and a little bit realistic, if all the rest is already saved.... I would grab all that it is at hand on the way out. I wouldn't get picky!
But if I could choose.... I would probably take my avatar and my costums ladies.... they are after all unique! :)

I used to store all my rare and MISB sets in a fire proof steel chest :-[

 It'd be terrible to die trying to save playmobil!
It's really funny how many of us have thought out how we would save our playmobil in a fire! The really funny thing is, house fires get so hot so fast, it would probably all be a melty mess by the time we got to it anyway.
I was actually wondering the other day before this thread started, has that ever happened to anyone here? losing playmobil in a fire?

There was a thread discussing insuring a Playmobil collection with homeowners insurance a while ago, maybe a year or so,...& I remember someone lost their collection in a flood, but I don't remember to a fire :o!
-
Yes, Mansionbuilder who used to post on this forum regularly lost his entire collection in the Texas grassfires a few years ago. He had some health issues some time after that and hasn't been posting very often lately. So it can and does happen.
My top one would be the organ grinder custom I got from Bogro a few years ago.
For regular Playmoibl it would be the Mountie on his horse. That one is the most difficult to replace I think.

Giorginetto has lost a big part of his early playmobil in a flood (lots of little accessories covered and mixed in mud as I recall).
I've lost all the boxes and instructions to a flood, but managed to salvage all the pieces, which btw needed a very good clean after that...

Yes thats true... Good thinking Tim!

Wow. I seriously cannot imagine how devestating that would be just for loss of playmobil alone, not to mention your home and everything else in it. That is very sad.

That wouldn't be fun either. At least it's not a complete loss, but still would be difficult. But maybe after having your home flooded, playmobil is the least of your worries. I don't know. I think I'd still think about the playmobil a lot!

I don't even want to imagen anything like that :'( :'( :'(
-
I would probably die unable to decide what Playmobil I would want to take... :P
But the one thing I know I would take would be my computer. ;)
(It has all my Playmobil in pictures, so I can get them back with insurance. )

This a strangely funny, yet sad discussion! Last night my husband told me he was thinking about buying a fireproof safe. When I asked why, he looked at me funny, as if I should already know, and he said "for our Playmobil of course!" ::) Though I don't know if we could find one large enough....does anyone have their collection insured?

I do. Check with your home owner or rental apartment insurance carrier & describe your collection & approximate replacement costs, & if it is in your home or a storage building, shed, rental storage, etc. It will increase your premium, but if something happens, you won't walk away with a loss. Even if your collection is in a storage rental you need to check on insurance due to the owner having structure insurance but your contents are your responsibility. Remember replacement values. How much would it cost to replace an entire steck castle collection like 8 x 3666, with hundreds, or even thousands of custom knights knowing they are discontinued, & it will take much more to replace everything than they originally cost due to rarity. Or think how much to replace a Victorian collection with multiple 5300 & 5305 houses, 5306 fences, 5620 cars, 5640 trucks, you get the picture :o! You will need to document your collection with a list of sets & pictures kept in a fireproof safe box for proof. :fireman:

I'd been thinking about this lately...funny
it's a scary thought though :o I would probably save the rarest sets, or just my MIB eskimo sets
as for the rest, it'd be a very sad loss... :( :'(

Just remember that if you pay to have them insured you will at least not be without a chance to start over again! ;)

We actually had this discussion here http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=4317.0
Don't now how much we progressed since then, but I have not insured mine ... :(
-
Don't get me started on that subject!

Maybe I should get mine insured; i haven't done it yet. But I think I would keep a copy of the list of sets and pictures showing what I have in a bank lockbox or something like that, because they say there is no such thing as a fire proof safe. If the fire gets hot enough, what's inside will be damaged or destroyed.

Be nice, bb! If you believe the Mayan calender, the end of the world is in December 2012. :hmm:

Yes, yes. I'm quite aware. ;)

I need to insure my collection ;)

I actually have an aztec calendar on my keychain. my sister-in-law is from mexico, and when my brother went with her to visit her family, he brought back aztec calendar keychains and temple of the sun keychains for everyone.

what part of Mexico is she from? :) oops we're going off topic here :-[
PS I think the mayans were not just from Mexico, they were spread all over Central America (like Guatemala and further down)
I wonder if insurance companies will cover disasters provoked by 2012
-
A very small town close to Mexico City. In the mountains. I can't remember the name. It's not spanish, but aztec and is very long.

I remember when Y2k approached, I made emergency kits for each of my family members with enough provisions, clothes, food, and walkie-talkies/batteries to last 3 days. I had the emergency kits stored in my trunk of my car which I also equipped with CB radio (in case satelite cell phone communication went down) and made sure I always had a full tank of gas.
On Jan1, 2000 I remember everyone scrambling for gas at the gas station and was glad I had already kept mine full. I spent about $500 on Y2K preventative emergency measures just in case, and had worked out a plan of escape/survival with my family.
But....nothing happened.
My emergency kits are now useless because my daughter has outgrown the clothes I put in it, as have I (lol, gained weight) and am no longer married to her mother (whom the other kit was for). And the food is old. So, I should probably make a new set of kits just in case 2012 histeria causes an emergency just from people panicking alone.
The way I look at is, you never know WHEN the end will be, whether it is your personal end, or the world's. You should always be prepared, but not live your life in fear in the meantime. Just enjoy the time you have now whilst you have it, and make sure emergency measures are in place to protect the ones you love (and the things you want to pass on to them) when/if you go.
Like putting on a seatbelt: you don't put it on because you're planning on getting in a car wreck; you put it on just IN CASE you do. But for the most part, just enjoy the ride :)

Very good analogy. i definitely have my own beliefs about "the end" which i will not go into here, as it isn't the place for it. But I do think it is coming.

Yep! Not skeered though! ;D

Me either.

Or they just got bored and said,
"You know, I am sick of writing out this stupid calendar day in and day out,
We already have ourselves set for the next 1000 or so years, lets take a break." ;)
-
i have a cartoon on my refigerator where the guy comes in with the calendar in his hand and says, "I only had room to go to 2012." And his wife says, "hm, that's gonna freak somebody out someday!"

HI
This conversation is making me want to take out a special clause in my insurance to cover my Playmobil in the event of fire.
I wonder how that would work ?
Has anybody ever taken a policy to cover collectibles ?
How do you value it ?

You need to call your house insurance agent ASAP, Ras! Your collection is on the extreme side! You will need to estimate REPLACEMENT VALUE for worth, because plastic melts at low temps, so fire will be its most dangerous foe! You may need to have a policy for a collection for a special coverage! If you don't do this, if a fire God forbid would destroy your storage barn, they may just pay for the barn replacement, but not your extreme contents, especially since the collection is in a barn dettached from the house directly! CALL YOUR INSURANCE AGENT NOW! Is the barn on a different part of insurance for your business, etc?
