How does the 4358 controller work?

Just recieved this pair of transformer/controller from ebay, but I don't know how the 4358 is supposed to work.

I understand it to be an outdoor controller, but why you still have to plug a transformer into it I don't understand




So far from the instructions I have worked out that they set up like this:



I don't understand how it works with having two speed controls now, and if this is supposed to be outdoor, is it designed to get wet? because surely the transformer would get wet as well - or would you bring that in when you are finished with it, leaving the controller connected to the track ready to go again

Is nothing more mentioned on the instruction of the 4358?? Maybe on the rear side of the paper??

The blue transformer has to stay inside. The green controller is only to control, there is no transfomer inside.
I am not quite sure if you must connect the AC- or the DC-output from the trasformer.
Changing the direction is done by changing the polarity.

If the DC-output has to be connected, I would expect that the blue transformer has to deliver full power, so turn the wheel to on side until the end. Now you can control your trains via the outdoor controller.

After checking the similar LGB-controller (50120) input to controller is DC.

No there is nothing more on the instructions, although they do show using the 4359 transformer with this controller, but I don't have one of those (just a box full of these blue ones! )

So if it is DC, am I using the correct outputs on the transformer? (what I have done in the photo?)

Hi Damo,

the 4359 is more powerful than the transformer you got, but in priciple it should work.

Simply give it a try. Maybe not at full voltage at the beginning.

I don't know, if the Playmobil 4358 is the same as the LGB 52120 or if it is modified.

If it is the same model, you could put 15-18 V AC or max. 24 V DC as input.

the solution what kind of voltage is needed or can be used, can be found when you are turning around the controller.
On the bottom the details can be found.

By the way my controller has the article numer 4369 and consists of a LGB 50120.....

The outdoor throttle is just that. A throttle. You would need to attach a power supply separately. I keep my power supply inside and attach cables to the throttle when I go out to run trains.

The needed power supply depends on how big your power demands are (track, switches, signlals, etc.).  The throttle that you have is a really nice one!

Is the outer control unit possible to attach to the LGB JUMBO unit and since it is outdoors its ok to leave outside for months ? ( not connected to jumbo of course )

Hi,

the outdoor control should be usable with the LGB Jumbo.
I would not leave the outdoor controller over a longer period, I guess outdoor in this case means can be used outdoors while playing and no need to hurry if it starts raining...

Actaully i dont see the need to get this extra control unit, the JUMBO is good enough for me and my not complex set ups .
