I would love to see some of this running at the next Knaresborough exhibition event. It would be spectacular.  I dont think I can give more than 32ft of length though.

Hi,

nice video. I guess my wife would kill me if I would try to make such a layout in our bedroom...

It seems that you need a few more straight rails, the train driver gets drunk with the current curves....

It's the spare/guest bedroom, so no problem.   ;D

I've based it partly on the North York Moors Railway which has one section where it curves backwards and forwards a lot.  Here's a link to a map of the line (the black and white one):

Mostly 4ft - particularly for the middle section.  Having said that I am thinking of a raised 1ft wide strip at the back of the display.  (This would be raised by 9 to 12 inches.  What sort of incline can you handle?)

There could be a turning circle at each end, or just a halt with some sidings.  What is your best turning circle?

I'll provide some sketch ideas.

I'll do some measuring, Mark, but turning circles with G gauge tend, inevitably, to be big.  The smallest is the one you can see in the garage video in the Kirkbean topic.  The best in terms of what it offers for a display is the one in this thread with the internal sidings.

How wide is the turning with the internal sidings in the first picture? and how long from front to back (from the points to the furthest extent of the circle)?

A minimum circle is 4ft outside diameter, so you need at least 4ft 6ins and ideally a bit more, say 5ft to allow room for derailments.

I'm pretty certain the Beachtown one is 5ft by 9ft, but I'll check.
