Hello all, after my first attempt and set up of my playmobil locos and LGB track i am now in the process of buyin gmore LGB track and a few more playmobil wagons etc to set up hopefully in Oct a much bigger outdoors layout . I have a coupleof questions

(1) Because the voltmeter screw in my LGB unit is broken , i cant calibrate the voltmeter to show exactly eg 24V at maximum voltage , i can easily replace with a new voltmeter of course but for aesthetics i want to repair the exisitng one
(2) One of the bottom screws of the LGB unit has gone loose inside the LGB unit !!! LGB says not to open the JUmbo unit unless a skilled technician !

Reference points 1 and 2 above i contacted Maerklin and they told me such repairs can take place by the following

Dr. Fürst
Modellbahntechnik GmbH
Mühlstrasse 7
82547 Eurasburg/Achmühle
Telefon 08171-217601
Fax. 08171-217602
E-mail: dr.fuerst@t-online.de

does anyone know the above ? i sent an email and awaiting for a reply ...

3   When i  do my next set up i will use some of these LGB end of track which have some 18V light bulbs (Track Bumper, Lighted Prellbock Gauge G - Item No.: 10310
, how do i connect these bulps and to where in teh JUMBO Unit ???

4. In my set up i will need to use some of these parts that LGB makes for locos to go uphill - rack rails and rack rail holders, do these work with playmobil trains and can someone post me a picture of how these are set and how many of each do i need for a LGB 1200mm track please ???

Hi,

regarding 1. and 2.:  No idea, never heard about this company.

3.  I would expect that the light is must be wired to the rails. I guess you have to connect the wires from the lamp to the rails, this can be done easily with the Massoth G-gauge rail clamps.

4. What do you mean with rack trails in this context? I only knew rack rails in furnitures or kitchens.

1.3 Do you know any other company that may do these small repairs for my JUmbo unit ? not that i am desperate to service it as its working 100% but i wouildnt mind fixing these small things ...

3. Lights a remeant to be 18V , will that work if connecting to the rails then, i suppose yes as there are lights after all on teh trains themselves.... In the playmobil controlling unit what are these black/white connectors for ? are they for lights ???

4. All these sets are available from LGB :

Rack Rails, 300 mm, 12 pieces
Gauge G - Item No.: LGB  10210

Rack Rail Holders, 24 pieces
Gauge G - Item No.:  LGB 10220

I would do the repair on my own.

The black/white connectors on a playmobil transformer are the AC-output and yes they are supposed to power lights.
If you are powering the bumper light via the tracks, the light will depend on the voltage on the track. If you are using the AC-output (with two seperate wires from Transformer to the bulb) the light will shine always.

The rack rails can only used with some special locos from LGB like 22460!! No chance to get it work with Playmobil!

Thanks Schluss !!!! BUT is there anything that I can do to get my 4052 / 4051 go uphill  ? are there any similar designs / systems i can use ? why are these only suitable for the 22460 is there somethign underneath that perhaps i can use in the playmobil trains also ???? sorry for all these questions !!!  :) :)

Have a look here:
http://www.buntbahn.de/modellbau/viewtopic.php?t=8373&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=10

As you can see the motor has a rack wheel.

So you would have to find a motor block which fits in to the Playmo-loco and has such a rack wheel.

Possible solutions:
- Decrease the inclination (max. 3%)
- add additional weight to the loco
- check and/or add traction tires
- drive in double traction

I would try coarse rubber strips on the wheels and lots of weight to make it grip but the grade is still going to make a huge difference... what is your incline currently?
Someday, I will organize my stuff, I promise.
