Howdy from Oklahoma, USA
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:11:14 »
Hello to all,

I've spent some time over the past few days looking around the site. I'm impressed with the members, all of whom seem very bright, witty and devoted to Playmobil. Thanks for the site, and for allowing me to come aboard.

My husband is very tolerant of my Playmobil habit. Really, let's face it, he's an enabler. Our daughter is my cohort. We have a great time searching the city for new items. I hope she never reaches a point at which she feels she's too cool, or too old, or some other devastating deviation. So far, so good. Fingers crossed.

We're collecting various themes, but I'd say most of our sets are modern/city.

Our larger sets:

#5300 Victorian Mansion (this was also our first)
#3185 Airport
#4324 School
#4279 Suburban House
#3240 Zoo

We have many other sets as well, but as I said these are the biggies.

My most recent acquisition was today on ebay. I purchased the #3165 police station and the #3162 getaway car.

The set I have to talk myself out of most often is the #4404 Hospital. How I'd love to build that! I know I'll have to get it eventually, but for now I'm convincing myself that it's too expensive, too big, and a little depressing. We'll see how long this can last! When I do finally order it, I know I won't be happy until I acquire all companion sets, and every obscure medical related set that Playmobil has ever made!

The set I'm most eagerly anticipating is the #5302 Mansion. How can I be expected to wait until August? I tell myself that once I get the #5302 (and, of course, all its bells and whistles!), I'll be content. I won't buy another set for the remainder of 2011! Maybe even longer! Well, excepting a small special or two. Or, if I see anything in a close-out shop. After all, we must all be flexible!

Hello Toyologist!

A warm welcome from the Netherlands. Thank you very much for your comprehensive introduction.

I will certainly take a close look at your daughters youtube channel.

In regards to your husband being an enabler. This site is one of the biggest motivators to get more Playmobil, when you actually see what can be done with all the sets, the need to get them just becomes bigger :-)

Have fun here, and next to the video's, we are always curious about pictures of peoples collection, so don't be shy, and post some :-)

:welcome: to Playmofriends from South Carolina USA, toyologist! I collect the same modern themes you do! You have found a place with many people to share your love with this toy line, so welcome to the asylum ! Be sure to let your daughter see the photo story & custom project boards here ;)!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Welcome from San Francisco.  Your introduction was fun to read, and I, too, will be checking out your daughter's videos.  As Bill said, this forum will tempt you to add more and more pieces to your collection, as you see all of the amazing collections and customizations.  Many of the members here have rooms filled with boxes of Playmobil, and their knowledge base of parts and pieces and creative customizing ideas is incredible.  I collect a variety of themes, but one thing we have in common is the hospital.  I built a 7 story one, including surgery, labor and delivery radiology, blood bank, pharmacy, as well as med surg and pediatrics  I have more to add, but need to figure out how to do it in my room.  My husband is an enabler, as well,  when we go on trips, he always looks for toy stores, and lets me go shopping, or checks out the inventory while I am in the nearby knitting shops.

Hello and  :welcome: from Louisiana!!! Great to have another lunatic in the asylum!  i'm afraid now that you have joined this forum, you'll be buying that hospital in no time. ;) I can't wait to check out your daughter's videos. I hope you have a wonderful time here! There are many people here, including myself who love all the modern themes, and occassionally branch out into the others as well. Playmobil is so awesome, it's hard to stick to one theme!
