Newbie questions about 3286/3940
« on: February 08, 2011, 16:03:59 »
Hi all,

Not sure this is the right place for this but there are two things I have been wondering about when it comes to the 3286 Pirate Flagship.

1. I have seen alot of people talking about firing the cannon on the lower deck.  Our cannon certainly can't be considered to fire in any meaningful way. Pushing the black part on the back of the cannon will send the ball an inch but no more.  What am I missing here?

2. What I originally thought was the motor is in fact a stabilizer. Are the motors still available from PM?

I think this is the motor you are looking for, but I could be wrong. http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Detail?pid=7350&cgid=Ds_Elektronisches_Zubehoer

As far as the cannon, I think it has been discussed before but I don't remember where. I'm sure someone here can help with that.

USA made cannos lack the resort that fires the bombs. for safety reasons  ::) ::)
..... maybe it is that.

USA cannons that come with the 3286 are simply missing a spring.  Find some vintage cannons (non usa) that should do the trick.  Or Just unclick the cannon barrel in half, and find a suitable spring (certain ballpoint pen springs may fit).  The spring will keep the black stem in the forward position.  When you pull it back, then let it go, and it will launch the cannonball forward.  Good luck finding it afterwards, though.  As they are tiny!

Or you can upgrade to the newer USA cannons that have launching projectile-shaped cannonballs....but the shot has a long shaft, like an arrow, and when loaded the cannonball can be seen protruding from the muzzle.  Ugly, but more practical for shooting if you ask me.
Ahoy, Pirates, Hoist the Colours!

Gaston is right! You are lucky they shoot at all.. some US cannons do not shoot whatsoever!

Good to have Atto (BlackPearl) to give the answers and Bonnie is correct, that moor is still available, and always will be as long as playmobil produces ships... or sea monsters  ;D

Or you can upgrade to the newer USA cannons that have launching projectile-shaped cannonballs....but the shot has a long shaft, like an arrow, and when loaded the cannonball can be seen protruding from the muzzle.  Ugly, but more practical for shooting if you ask me.

Those newer cannons that launch arrow-kind projectiles have also replaced the european guns.

It's much more difficult to fire from below deck these newer cannons that shoot arrow-like projectiles; the gun-carriage is the same as the older cannons, but the barrel is updated and has a different firing-mechanism: instead of pulling the end of the barrel to fire (when a spring is installed), you have to press at the top of the gunbarrel.
This might work for the cannons installed at the front gunports and is certainly not a problem for those installed in the Captain's cabin, but arrow-barrel equipped guns installed mid-ship (where you can load/unload stuff into the ship) can't be fired because of the too limited hight below deck.

To play with / fire the guns on the 3940/3286, the previous generation european cannons, or the US ones equipped with a proper spring, are the best solution.
They're still available as DS-sets:

European version:
http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=7274&cgid=Piraten

US-Version:
http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=7335&cgid=Piraten

They look the same, but have a different DS-setnumber.

I just looked it up, and I see Nessie can be fitted with it too!  :o That's so cool!
