Frederick S. Fales
« on: January 04, 2011, 16:28:21 »
Hi Guys!
In WWII my Grandfather was part of the British navy.
His ship, the Frederick S. Fales was part of the HX-72 convoy.
On their way to England (I believe) the ship was sunk by a u-boat.
Originally it was written down in the books that all crew members had died,
But of course that is not true as my grandpa made it back. (Along with several others.)

So my Uncle wrote a book on the whole thing
and basically changed a bit of what we knew about history. :)9

So in his memory I am going to transform a new ship that I just bought:

Into a representation of what his ship would have looked like.
Frederick S. Fales

Ill be bringing you guys along for the ride,
so I will keep this thread updated with progress photos. :)
It is probably going to be a fairly quick custom...
But who knows? I may want to change a bit more after I get all the main changes done. :P ;)

Anyway, here is my idea in the very early stages:

The pipe is made of pieces of an old marble racer game that I no longer play with.
I was hoping for a smoother one, but if I can't find anything else Ill use that one.
Is there anyone here who knows of a Playmobil pipe I could use?
It would need to be fairly thick...
The pipe I have here is the right size that I am looking for.

I am probably also going to change the pole for one of the poles from the 3286.

I hope you guys like it. :)

Looks an exciting project, WoT :yup:

The only other pipes I can think of are the ones from the construction sets, but these are way to small for your needs :-\

Can't wait to see it completed :D

This looks to be a fascinating project WOT.
Looking forward to seeing its progress.
Was your uncle's book published? if so do you have details of it?  I'd be interested to read it.
My father sailed the other way, from the UK to US then sailed on board the 'SS West Point' which was formerly the liner 'SS America', to Singapore. I have an account that he kept of the journey which makes fascinating reading.
