My Victorian Tales in Videos
« on: November 16, 2010, 02:41:56 »
Good morning Playmofriends

As I am about to embark on a new journey of producing victorian tales around the main theme of "Summer Garden Party on Regent St", I would like to share with you the story so far in a few videos which I have made from the pictures I took at the time.

It is quite naturally that my initial indoor scenes with a only a few pictures evolved to little stories ot tales developed from a central theme such as Autumn, Winter or even just an object such as the little green hand wagon of my tale "The Birthday Cake".

Ever since I started customizing the Playmobil Victorian Theme with dolls house accessories on a 1/12th scale and later creating food items on the same scale, I have always accesorized the theme in such a way that it complemented it in subtle little touches rather than overshadow it as in my mind and in my heart the real feature are my happy little victorians.

As a result the initial small table used as a stand for my Victorian House has developed into a 2m x 1m50 "preparation board" which is being transformed into the season of my choice at the time.

The very first video of my customs "Playmobil Victorian Revisited" has reached a total of 9757 views so far which is interesting as many of my Friends are purists when it comes to Playmobil but I guess I created an interest and a curiosity in 2009.

I realized the importance of having a background picture with regards to giving depth and atmosphere to my scene and after using the advent calendar in my first tale "The Birthday Cake", I quite naturally decided to go for selecting paintings which immediately set the mood of the tale when it comes to the season.

The choice of background music is also very important and I always try to add a musical background as atmospheric as possible.

Here is a little retrospective of my tales which detailed pictures can be found in the Story Telling section :

The Birthday Cake - a Victorian Tale

The very first of my victorian tales revolves around a little street boy and his little green hand cart who goes to the market to sell pumpkins on a winter day. He has helped the local community with all kinds of little services throughout the year and on his birthday, he is in for a real surprize. There is magic in the air today as our little hero will soon find out...

Autumn Harvest - a Victorian Tale

Regent St is dressed in Autumn colors and the tale starts with the arrival of the little milk delivery boy who has become the main feature of the opening of my tales. Later in the day, and after collecting juicy grapes on the front porche of the mansion and making wine, our little heroes discover that there is only one apple remaining in the kitchen fruit bowl...As a result they embark on a happy carriage ride which will take them on a fun afternoon of apple harvesting followed by a little picnic. Back home, it is time to prepare the great Regent St Autumn Fair...

There is Magic in the Air

My own version of Halloween in which a shadow creeps in silence towards the mansion and the intriguing presence of a raven. The legend says never to look into the eyes of a raven for he may well steal your soul. How can our happy little Victorians fight the powers of evil ? There is Magic in the Air today, black magic that is...

I worked on the character of the Evil Queen inspired by the Snow White Tale in which a ravel carries a magic hand mirror which gives her a window on the outside world and the Snow Queen Tale in which the Queen has the power to change the season into ice and snow as she wishes.

Help will come in a unexpected way and happiness will return on Regent St...

Christmas Miracle on Regent St

The most elaborate of my tales so far tells the story of a little orphan girl who lives in the middle of the woods. The animals of the forest are her friends and she has a special talent : she paints ! Sceneries and christmas cards come to life under her paint brush and she sells them on the market and brings fresh eggs to the Mansion every day. It is christmas morning and as she reaches the Mansion, Regent St is festive with Christmas decorations and the young lady of the house is also busy decorating the big Christmas Tree in the lounge. This is all our little hero has ever dreamed of : a warm and cosy home filled with happy people so when she comes back to her humble wooden shed, she paints her dream of a family. Will her painting ever become a reality ?...

These are beautiful, Karim! The backgrounds are gorgeous, and the lighting and photography are just perfect. You must have had hours of fun setting these up and planning them. Very well done.

so picturesque, sir Karim.  I love your work, from customizing, to diorama set up, to photography.  Well done.  You should make professional dioramas for Playmobil catalogues and box art, if not make post cards or story books as well.  I am amazed by your artistry, sir :)

The Cast & Guest Stars of Summer Garden Party on Regent St

An extraordinary adventure which started with a suggestion from our Friend Tonguello to create one customized character for my project of Summer Garden Party on Regent St. Inspired by his wonderful creation, Lady Van den Hesse, our Playmofriends from around the world soon joined in the fun by creating unique customized characters who's names can be read like a Who's Who of Victorian Society.

I invite you to discover one of the most extraordinary gallery of customized victorian characters ever created ...
