How to take smell off your playmos?

Hi all!
I hope this is the right place for this. In fact is a "how to" question.... not a "how -to" method..... anyway.... fell free to move it if needed.

I bought the victorian classic car today  and it has a horrible smell of tobacco. MOst of all the sits and tires, which are made of some sort of rubber.
Does anybody know how to take the smell off? I put it in water and soap for an hour and brushed it gently but didn't change a bit. Is there something else I could do? The rubber seems delicate to me....is there something I can do that wouldn't harm it nor the plastic?

I don't know if you can buy what I have used for years where you are, but MEAN GREEN spray cleaner used with a small brush does a great job for cleaning entire Playmobil items without harming the plastic finish even if they are painted from the factory. I've used it on the green Victorian wing chairs with the rubberized coating without any damage results.

This can be such a disappointing experience when buying secondhand items. 

Usually the smell will gradually fade on its own if the toys have been washed and left to air outside of any wrappings & boxes. If it is very strong, it could take longer.

On the plus side, I've never had any smoky pieces or figures which stayed that way permanently.

The most sufficient way to get the smell out of playmobil is the dishwasher.
Just be careful with the small parts.

And I recall that Daniela had a bathtub variant to get rid of tobacco smells...

OK thank you guys! I'll keep trying. I'll leave it soaking in washing powder and water while I'm at work.

Socrates is right.

I used different methodes, but this one works and is easy!

I hate smoke smell at my Playmos.

I think I have tried just about all of the above mentioned methods, save the Mean Green (I'' have to put that on my shopping list!)  I have found that a trip in the dishwasher followed by a day or two (or three) in the sunshine (an earlier tip from Flatcat) seemed to work the best for me. Well guys, after 10 hours soaking in water and washing powder the smell have diminished, maybe 50% but it is still there. It is off the clickies 100% thank god!
Today it rained almost all day so tomorrow if it is better the car will stay out, a little bit on the sunlight even. (Im a bit scared of that) The fresh air might do the rest.
