Clean Sails.
« on: April 29, 2010, 06:02:08 »
I recently got a new pirate boat with the pirate emblem already on it. I hate it. ¿Does anyone have an idea to take it out?

You need to show us the sail, so we may be able to help you!

Set 5869
Large, ragged sail, part number 30 81 5502

I can patch the sail myself, but I can't get the picture off of it. Advice?

The picture will  be printed on and the solution may be not one of taking it off as covering it over, e.g. by dye.

My thoughts exactly Gordon! You could use plastic paint or dye in what ever color you desire to change it to!

maybe you will have to dye the sail black.  :hmm:
otherwise the print will always be visible.
you could always try to use a sail form another ref. schooner but i think they all have a print.

IMHO you should try to get one of the other red sails to replace the colored one:

Or is it any imprint at all that bothers you?

There are some discussions along pirates anyway that the ripped sails are in itself tremendously unrealistic. ;)

So, maybe you will end up in making your own, custom-designed sails after all.
We are looking forward for pictures...

Ok, so I reviewed the suggestions quickly and…
I’ve tried hiding the imprints with marker pens and crayons (with a prior sail), I tried painting over it (with hand paints and even with spray paint). Of the options, the only one that actually hid the imprint was spray paint, which stiffened the material to the point it became worthless. With everything else the image still showed through.
Maybe if I didn’t hate pirates, or it was some other type of image (like a fishing symbol), this wouldn’t be an issue. Unfortunately, I hate pirates…
