Storage crisis sort of solved!
« on: March 07, 2010, 17:08:56 »
Hi,
As you may remember I had a rather major problem with space a few months ago in a previous post http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=3831.0

I have spent all morning out in the shed sorting (where about 1/3 of my Playmobil is)

I have also managed to hide away most of my recent haul (with the pirate ship and island still to home)

Sorry to Bill :-[ as I did not have a chance to make the fancy shelves to go inbetween the unit's shelves but everything has a home now :)

Top shelf:

On the top shelf of the unit used to be a kitchen wall cupboard on it's side full of paint, but I have now got rid of it to make room for my old construction vehicles. I screwed a shelf to the wall to maximise the lost space above the unit (I had to stand on a stool to take this pic)

Second shelf down:

Has remained pretty much the same just with a slight move around of vehicles (sorry again to Bill as the shelves are still probably not crammed enough to his likeing) :-[

Third shelf down:

All my old emergency vehicles

Forth shelf down:

All my customs in progress. I put all of my spare hats and clothing items in the sweet tin, and all my pirate spares and accessories in the treasure chest as I don't like this as a set

Away from the unit now:

At one end of my area is a bench made from an old piece of kitchen worktop which has always been there and where I sit to paint and make attempt customs.

On one side of the bench is my 3666 castle which is my favourite of my two

Close-up of castle. I enjoy putting anyone in there even if they don't match

Under the bench used to be two stools, but I have now taken away one so that I could put this low unit underneath which fits in a treat.

The wrecked vehicles from my photostory. They were already broken before I decided to make it .

I found two large wheeled storage boxes to put all the vehicles from my step brother's bedroom floor in. they stand nicely in front of the unit and can be easily wheeled out the way if access is required to the bottom shelves.

My wall unit in the corner has stayed pretty much the same, but with a few more aditions to my specials shelf :P

These draw units I found are good for storing the larger spares and accesories in, which I had before. They stand on my other work surface under the wall unit

I have since purchased this wooden unit for a meer £1 to store all my large parts in. I have since got rid of most of the broken vehicles but still kept a few.

In the blue unit I keep from the top: spare parts, Klicky lookalikes, spare klickies, and non playmo spares - just in case :P

Well done, flat cat  :)9! One word of caution though, be sure to protect any Playmobil from direct sunlight, as it will cause the plastic to discolor from the UV rays! Installing some curtains, or blinds to shield the exposed items is advised, or things may start changing, fading, yellowing, etc.  :0!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Funny you should say that, because I normally get my Playmobil out to set up/play with in the back of our lounge which has full length glass patio doors, with no blinds or curtains. I always make my mum laugh because whenever I have something out and the sun is out, I keep moving it around the room as the sun moves and it drives her crazy because she doesn't understand 8}

My Playmo is safe where it is because it is quite dark in there, and no light from any windows can reach in, and besides they are frosted windows as well, so they do not let so much light in 8-)

That looks very well organised! I hope you still have room to play as well as store and display.  ;D

Your collection is primarily modern urban themed, but I see you couldn't resist branching out with a castle and the Specials. You mention a second castle, is this a second 3666 or a different set?

Hi Martin Milner
my second castle is a 3269 rock castle:

I mainly collect anything modern themed - rescue, farm, construction, city life etc. and also knights, pirates, and western :)

A wonderfully tidy setup, flatcat.  A credit to the serious Playmobil collector.  I must try and follow suit!
