Welcome to the forum, Mobildad!

Greetings from sunny Hobart in Australia! (It's going to be hard to return home to wintry Scotland next week.)

I'm sure you will find lots of tips here on all the aspects of collecting which interest you.  :)

Have fun with your klickies! :D

welcome mobildad
welcome from san francisco.  collecting for your children is a wonderful family project.  i actually started in the 1970s when playmobil first came to the us, although i was never able to purchase all of the sets we wished for as they were quite expensive, at least for our budget.  however in the last ten years after we finally finished sending all of our money to college accounts, i have had fun collecting some of those larger sets.  you are right, many of the collections shared on this forum are mind-boggling, but the best part of this forum is the friendly and helpful nature as well as a peek at incredible creativity. welcome to a lifetime of collecting.

Many thanks to you all for your very warm welcome.  I am very pleased to be a part of such a friendly community. :)
I will try and reply to those of you who have made enquiries in more detail when I have a bit more time.  I tried to reply to your welcome messages earlier but managed to muck it up!  All that typing wasted!!!  Never mind. Ill get the hang of it eventually.  In the mean time as I had neglected to mention, we are Brittish and are based on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.  Best wishes to you all and thanks once again for a lovely welcome to what seems to me to be a very friendly community indeed :)

Hi from Maine-  I started collecting as a kid, but I finally have an excuse with two little ones- My oldest has a pretty good collection of 123, and she gets pretty excited when we go to the basement to feed the cats and she gets to see "Daddy's toys."
Welcome!

Hello mobildad and welcome from the Great Pacific Northwest! Any special themes of interest or are you a generalist? If we knew where you were it would help us to supply you with regional information on sources and sales but welcome and make yourself comfortable.

Gepetto

Hi Gepetto,

See above For location.

My interest is fairly general.  my main objective however is to secure as much Playmo kit as possible as a means to using it as a vehicle not only for imaginative play for my son but also as a means for him to learn about societal infrastructure and cultural, historical issues as well as mans interaction with his environment.  I Think Playmobil is probably the only toy on the market that enables all of the above whilst still having a collection type interest to it.
Themes we currently have on the go are, I think (as I am very new to this)

Western; Castle/Knights; Safari; Polar Dino expedition; New Dino Adventure stuff, Police; Some other Miscellaneous items including a Garden and a pedalo.

I'm already learning a great deal about all the bits and bobs from the forum areas.  This has been a great move signing up here.
Soon I hope to ask some really lame questions about fixing things and getting extra /replacement parts.  Shall I assume that I should post enquiries of a specific nature in the most relevant looking area?

That would be fine mobildad, the moderators can move the posts if need be for clarification.
