Unknown blisterpack; Who has more info ?

  From a good friend and fellow collector I got this rare blisterpack which has no text or logo on it. Looking at the figures depicted I guess it's a Playpeople set. It could be a transition set when Marx Toys went bust and Playmobil UK took over. Is there anyone who can give me more information about this set ?

I agree it is probably Playpeople -as a child I had all the colour combinations shown on the pack, except the female figure in the blister.

I wonder why she's shown with a bunch of construction workers? She appears to be getting ready to lie on a sun lounger with a bobble hat on, and a bucket beside her.

I wonder if this was the inner part of a package, and the outer had the logos etc.

Thanks for your reply, do you think it's a counterfeit. The contents also made me wonder, it doesn't make a lot of sense. It's quite strange that there is no text at all on this blister. One other thing I am very interested in collecting mint in box Playpeople sets (I have about 40 still new and unplayed), do you perhaps know any other collectors in the UK who might be willing to trade with me. I've no reason to think this would be counterfeit - why would anyone bother? It can't be worth 20p to most people, who would rather have a new Playmobil figure.

It's only a handful of people worldwide who are interested in collecting mint unopened Playmobil figures from the mid 1970s.

The figure looks like the real thing, but the lack of logos or any type at all on the package is odd, as you say.

Can you tell if there is a copyright stamp on the underside of the foot? That might give us more clues.

Sir Gareth is very knowledgeable about Playpeople and has an extensive collection of it. I wonder if he has seen anything like this before.

Perhaps it comes from a different country which had a license to produce Playmobil in the 70s... Brazil... Greece? There may not have been as much quality control over the packaging back in the very early days.

It could even be an early prototype of some sort.

Hi,

Well it's at least older than 1982 since the figure doesn't have revolving hands. The green chair was also featured in the caravan set. Yes, under the right foot it read 1974 (c logo) and under the left foot it reads geobra (and the b logo).

Hi Eddy,

 I haven't seen this blister before, but I would say that it is a genuine Marx produced Playpeople figure.

 It's not a promo figure that you would get free in a cereal box or sent from a special readers offer in the radio times or similar publication. The packaging is designed to be displayed on a hook board in a store, maybe in a store such as Mothercare.

I'm sure you remember the Mothercare set Playpeople at work which was basically a superset sized box with mixed themed figures. They may also may of produced a series of Blister packs like this one to add to the super set or just to get you started in your Playpeople collection.

The backing of the blister packs might also of varied in themes to match the themes in the super set. There might of been cards with Hospital, Police and city life images on them with a random figure in the blister.

Sorry that I can't give you a definite answer as to where this set came from and thanks for posting this little Playpeople mystery.

Thanks for the info, where did you get that beautiful Mothercare set, I have never seen it before, did they release more Playpeopel sets under that name ? The friend I traded this blister with had one other one with the same cardboard but with a construction worker, strangely one of the accessories was white siren sign on top of the police car, some very strange mixes indeed.

I  don't know information about the blister, but it's nice. (with a knight would be better :p )

and the Sir Gareth box are amazing. I'd swap the polystyrene box with a new one...

I thought I would revive this post rather than link to it.

I have just received another one of these unusal figures from a recent Ebay win.

What I found unusual was the use of the coloured figure with the Native American Indian accessories, also in the blister is just the fez without the blue tassle.
