Monster High
« on: January 05, 2026, 19:37:55 »
Seven PM sets (71992 to 8) were issued in this theme towards the end of last year. Six of the sets each contain a single figure and one set (71992) contains three figures, repeats of those in the single-figure sets 71993, 4 and 6.

I bought four of the sets because the figures have new hair styles created for this series (the other two single figures in sets 71997 and 71998 have repeats of two of the four hairstyles, in different colours/printing). I am still trying to maintain a list of all PM hairstyles.

71993 Clawdeen Wolf

71994 Frankie Stein

71995 Draculaura

71996 Cleo de Nile

There is some intricate printing and a few new parts (ear-rings, for example) on each klicky.

Mattel released the first six original Monster High dolls in 2010, in an experimental business strategy (release of the dolls first, with media and entertainment following), with great commercial success. The first dolls were chimeras of Barbies, My Scene dolls and heads from another doll line which was never released. I am not a fan of the Mattel dolls, though one of my daughters was mad about them a few years ago (I remember going to Toys R US to buy some, so that dates it!). Recently (December 2024) we sold her entire collection of 55 MH dolls on eBay for £670, so there are clearly people who still collect such things.

Speaking of cost, the PM versions of MH dolls are not cheap at 7.99 (it’s the same in euros, US dollars or UK pounds, geobra have their own convenient exchange rates), even if you wait for a 30% sale like I did. At least they are showing as available on the US website!

As with the PM versions of Naruto figures a few years ago, Playmobil have included a picture of the ‘original’ figure on the side of the box for each of the single-figure sets. Whilst this showed how faithfully Playmobil had tried to represent the Naruto figures in klicky form, I am not sure they have been as successful with the Monster High klickies. It’s the legs where klickies cannot really compete.

Anyway, judge for yourself;

The two characters in sets 71997 and 71998 (which I didn’t buy) are Ghoulia Yelps and Lagoona Blue respectively. Five of these are the same as the first six Mattel MH dolls issued in 2010 (not Ghoulia Yelps, this was Deuce Gorgon in the original line-up).

The hairstyles are based on four new moulds. All have additional printing. Here are five views of each of the four styles I have, mounted on a plain head and torso (they are fully interchangeable with most other hairs):

As you see, three are very long at the back and one (Draculaura) is short with ‘pins’ to hold extensions. Here is the hair with the extensions in place:

Clawdeen Wolf’s (and 71998 Lagona Blue’s) hair has two holes. Clawdeen has two ears with rings which fit in these holes:

Lagoona Blue seems to have a flower in one of her head-holes and a tassle in the other.

Cleo de Nile and 71997 Ghoulia Yelps both have a single hole in their heads, holding the pin of a headband in both cases.
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

Thanks for the review and detailed pictures, GrahamB!

The new hair options are definitely the best parts about these.

Thanks for the review.

The hairs are gorgeous... Unfortunately, the reddish brown one does not really match much - found only one beard... and it doesn't really fit.

Every time I went to buy them during a sale the Monster High girls were excluded

At 30% off or $51 for all… you’d have to be as high as a collector

Thanks for the review
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:
