Balloon and...tiger? 71853
« on: September 21, 2025, 05:45:55 »
Can't remember if this has already been commented on (search turned up nothing) but it seems to me that it would take a very brave soul to get into a balloon basket with a full grown tiger!

Oh and there's a cockatoo in there as well, presumably as safety officer

The description is highly overegged!  ;D

I thought it was an homage to this film, typically playmo-late.
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

This is quite a strange set.

When I first saw it, I too thought of Life of Pi, as well as Jasmine and Rajah from Disney's Aladdin.

You can't help but suspect they had already made the hot air balloon for some other theme that was cancelled and wanted to find a use for it

I like that they made a hot air balloon. I'm unclear why she's using it to transport a tiger - maybe it has to be air-dropped into the jungle.

It would be interesting to find out if that is the case, and what the theme could have been  ??? No matter what, it can be used for a lot of interesting things and customs!

I also think the bizarreness of a tiger in a hot air balloon is quite sweet, very childlike in a way, and I feel like it would be a fun springboard for young creativity.

I bought the set because of the balloon (which is very nice by the way), but what surprised me was the colour of that tiger! In the picture it looks normal, but in real it looks like the colour of those orange fluorescent markers. If I find the time, I’ll put a picture here. Comparing it with the other tigers.

I've also got it on my list, although I assume it won't be the last time we see the balloon  But I do like the colour combination on it

It has a unique part number 30 66 8866 known from the instructions. Nice to hear it is noticeably different.

Here you go, from left to right:

30659422 from set 5416, the colour of the belly is a type of beige.

unknown part (?), according to PlaymoDB it has the same part number as the first one, but the paint on the belly is white. This is the one from set 70359.
