Walt's Playmobil Railway
« on: October 14, 2007, 19:23:34 »
On Saturday, Diane and I went across to Lytham-St Anne's to the North West Garden Railway and Narrow Gauge Exhibition specifically to see the Playmobil layout of Walter and Marion Turner, and we weren't disappointed.  The initial attraction had been the burning house part if the display which Michael Layland, another Playmobil railway fan, had brought to my notice.

Here are some photos of Walt's layout.

And now four shots giving a panorama of the layout.

Thanks, Gordon ...

From looking at your photos of Walt's Playmobil railway, it looks like that there was a lot to see.

Can you give us a little history about the railway and also about Walt? And, do you have any more photos?

Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

Thanks for posting those Gordon, it looks like a great set up. Is the helicopter turning? It looks like it's held up on a pole that could be rotated?

It is indeed, Tim.  Not only turning, but also transmitting pictures to a small TV screen (you can see it in the Right middle picture behind the mini-sets), although when I took the photo which shows the screen the batteries for the camera had just failed.  At one time the camera was fitted to one of the engines, but all it showed was peoples' legs.

I can't really, Richard, as the existence of the railway was only brought to my notice maybe six weeks ago, and then from the point of view of the burning house.  From talking to Walt, I know he worked for the electricity industry in power generation and regularly swapped shifts so that he and his wife could go to model railway shows.  He's now retired and is 70 shortly.  In his garden, he's just built a large hobby hut which will house his railway and will also have loops to a permanent outside layout which will be used when the weather permits.  His current layout was on its last show before being revamped.

I've no more photos, but I did some video clips and if you like to PM me your address, I can drop them on a CD and send you them.

Thanks for the offer, Gordon!

However. after I downloaded your photos, I was able to "zoom in" and see everything.

Thanks again and all the best,
Richard

Hi Gordon

And many thanks for this item, nice to know that I am not the only one mad on trains. Although what is frustrating is that my parents only live down the road in Southport so I could have had a valid excuse for visiting them and using their hospitality  ;D

thanks again Craig

There is another show before Christmas so you could combine a visit to the show with a pre-Christmas visit, but Walt's layout won't be there I'm afraid.
