5625 Coast Guard Rescue Boat and 5626 Light House
« on: July 28, 2015, 14:39:21 »
This is review of two sets, the US releases 5625 Rescue Boat and 5626 Light House from the current Coast Guard series. These are two additional sets to the existing Coast Guard line released in the US at ToysRUs and Playmobil.us. At this time they seem to be sold out at TRU online but are still available at Playmobil.us

First up is the Rescue Boat 5625

The contents out of the box

unbagged and laid out

There is a moderate amount of assembly on this one, with various parts going together to make the boat, some stickers, and two klickies with a handful of accessories.

Closer views of the Klickies

This is the only set in the series with a non-white ethnic Klicky, unique to this set. The woman is a repeat from the 5540 large rescue boat.

The boat

There is a compartment under the wide back seat, and the front colored section can come off for more storage. The light on the front is a nice assembly with a clear lens. The boat will float nicely and be useful for pool or tub play. This is my favorite hull design for this type of boat. others are too small with not enough seating. This one has two chairs plus the back bench so can fit up to 4 or 5 Klickies, seated plus the front area where a Klicky can stand. I really liked the coloration of this hull in the old whale watching set but that was in very limited release and never in the US. This is a great use of it I think, and fits a nice spot in the series - smaller than the big rescue boat but larger than the inflatable types in other sets. Would be great around a small city or large lake.

This is bigger than I expected. From the box front pictures and those I have seen on the web I expected the rock form to be shorter than it is. It takes a fairly big box to fit it. The rock has been used before once, in the first release of the Brachiosaurus of the Dinos series. It is tall enough a Klicky can stand in the cave opening. The size was a pleasant surprise and gives the set more visual impact and seem more useful as it could go at the edge of a harbor scene nicely.

A bit less assembly on this one with more than half going into the rescue boat included. The white platform has a special shaped tab piece underneath that fits into the hole in the top of the rock form. It's a clever design adaptation to make use of an existing rock shape and works really well. Very secure and the placement is nicely balanced looking.

Klicky closeups

Both of these are repeats from other sets in the series, the one with tan hair (great color!) is from 5543 Emergency Vehicle and the one in white is the pilot from 5542 Fire Fighting Helicopter

Here it is assembled. The light takes two AAA batteries, and has 4 little amber lights in it that slowly fade in and out in sequence making it seem like a rotating lighthouse light. I think it's a really effective looking light and really fun. The light assembly is also on the top of the 5539 Coast Guard Station with Lighthouse but I think looks more effective and right in this set. It was the only part of the Coast Guard Station I really wanted and I was thrilled when it came out in such a great looking and reasonably priced set as this one. The ladder has been cleverly placed to fit exactly on the rocks, and there is plenty of room around the light for Klickies to stand behind the railing. The boat is a nice hard shell inflatable type, with some typical rescue type accessories. The flagpole is a nice touch and could have been improved slightly by the inclusion of red and yellow banners that could represent weather warnings. Still that is an easy addition to make from existing parts with a little creativity.

with the light on

Overall I really like the rescue boat and love  the lighthouse. These are just the right size type of sets I think - big enough to be cool and effective as a toy but small enough to come in at a good price point. It's too bad they aren't part of the full series but hopefully they will make appearances in other markets. I believe they have been in the UK previously as well.

Here they are both together for a final shot

Thanks for reading the review

Thanks for the review.

Those are nice sets (but not core, so I cannot :( ) - a shame that the round base has that round thing sticking out... it would be really a gorgeous and useful piece (with the yellow railing  )  otherwise..

Nice klickys too :)
