This is the final part of ''THE BATTLE OF DERVENAKIA 1822''.

Some soldiers react quickly and shoot the attackers...








The army was large, and if they reacted coolly, they could have possibly defended successfully... But the panic was big and all had only one thought in their mind: how to leave this place, even under the barrage of shoots...


Some Janissaries attack to the Greek fortifications bravely...














































Many Greeks started looting. This is the reason which a significant amount of Dramalis' army escaped. Ipsiladis and Kolokotronis tried to stop these incidences but didn't succeed...


Finally, the Greeks attacked with their swords!








At the same time, Kolokotronis shouted his men: ''YIOURGIA ORE!''




Many Greeks continued shooting...


The battle had turned into a massacre...




































A significant amount of the Turkish army with Dramalis managed to escape to Korynthos....but they were no longer considered dangerous as a force....


Dramalis died in Korynthos from his sorrow. Only 4.000 of his great army escaped. And they were terminated by the chieftains of Ahaia....very few escaped....


This was a great victory for Greece. Many Greeks were armed by the weapons of this army. Also many spoils came to the hands of the victorians.






This victory revealed one more time the military talent of Kolokotronis to the eyes of Greece and all Europe.

Thank you for this.  I had no prior knowledge of the Battle of Dervenakia and kind of thought Muslim invasions of Europe stopped with the Battle of Lapanto - obviously a more recent part of our history that needs to be explored more.

Can anyone image what the face of the world may be like now if this relatively unknown (to me and I would hazard to guess most in North Am and quite possibly most outside of Greece!) battle had gone the other way?

There is a reason why military history is studied so much - not because is it necessarily glorious or anything, but because so much change has  hung in the balance of it.

Impressive number of pictures, too, I must add!

WESLEY MYERS=I like to much the way you see it Wesley.....Indeed there were some battles,wich change the face of this world,or at list part of it....This battle was (in my opinion)one of those battles.....

TIERMANN=Thank you man for your nice comments....there were exactly 443 figures there....and was difficult,but the happyness make it worth all.....

BIRDIE=Really took me months the prepare of the figures Birdie,specialy because they are not usuall....and to find weapons for all this men,(without take from other grups),it wasnt easy also....
