Reparing broken train connectors
« on: January 31, 2014, 13:27:52 »
Hi Guys,

I recently acquired an old LGB playmobil train (the 4027) and to my regret, the connectors that keep the locomotive and the wagons together are nearly all broken. I've already contacted playmobil to see if they still sell replacement parts, but no...not anymore :-(

So I was wondering, what is a good way to fix these wagons?

See the attached photo for an example of a broken connector:

I can not tell in your picture but you may also need 7561 (2 Wheel Assemblies w/Coupling) If the tabs that hold on the part that Gordon linked are broken then you will.
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

I was unsure about that too, Ras.  Even if the wheel assembly coupling isn't broken I've found that on rolling stock which had the LGB type coupling hook with the little "springs", the new style coupling hook can be a loose fit.  I think this is because on the original wheel assemblies the two prongs on the wheel assembly the coupling hook went over had a slot between them running across the truck or carriage and, over time, the prongs came closer together.  On the newer wheel assemblies using the current coupling hook, the slot between the prongs runs in line with the wagon or coach the hook assembly fits much tighter.  Of course, this not only makes things more expensive, but removing the wheel assemblies without damaging the tongues on the truck/coach chassis is a fiddly business.

(Oh, and if you keep the original wheel assemblies, you have to saw off the cross piece which the LGB type coupling rests against.)

Are you looking for these old style couplings?

The new RC stuff fits the old playmobil train wagons. Isn't the old playmobil wagons made by Geobra anyways? Isn't it only the old engine blocks and brass track that were produced by LGB?

I run in summer a small garden layout with second hand LGB, Toytrain, Playmobil and RC Playmobil train. No problem at all.

Only the tracks were LGB, Ras.  The motor was a Playmobil one.
