Trash to Treasure - Playmobil Shelves
« on: December 10, 2012, 18:52:23 »
A few weeks ago, I was at a garage sale and came across a shelving unit for displaying decorative items that caught my eye. They were nice and open, with glass shelves, and no back or sides. The shelves are quite deep, very spacious for displaying playmobil buildings. Only problem was that one of the glass shelves was missing. Still, for $15 I couldn't pass them up, and I had an idea for what to do about the missing shelf. I've rather unconventionally placed this display right in front of my window, but since they are so open, when you are in the room you hardly even notice they're there and can look right through them. So here are my new displays. Sorry some of the pics are dark, it's hard with the light coming from in front of the camera.

Gift shop and pony rides, not much to see there.

Close-up of the gift shop.

caveman display

setting an ambush for the saber tooths

protecting the women and children in the cave

the playground

Boats on the water. The missing glass shelf has been replaced by my fake water made with stiff cardboard.

family in speedboat, and couple on jet skis, all wearing their life jackets. ;)

party boat

And some less responsible parents...

... who have been spotted by the police.

and last of all, an underwater display

filming a documentary

Excellent idea bb and very nice displays, well done. My favourite is the underwater diorama, I like it very much.
Many thanks for the pictures.

That looks really nice.. I'd never have considered putting such a thing in front of the window - what a great idea!

(and what do the furry neighbours think?)

Thanks guys! The furry neighbors don't seem to mind, but I think the klickys may not be as fond of them. ;) Their hay, pellets, and bedding all generate dust, but worse, they somehow manage to spray green lettuce juice out of their cage and all over the klickys! Not sure what that's all about, but the klickys on the yacht are the ones that get it, so they have to get regular baths to remove all the green spots.

what a great idea bb!
I like how you solved the problem of the missing shelf.  ;D

Now you need to solve the dust problem.... always a downside, am I right?  8}
I recently discovered that even if your shelves have glass doors the dust squeezes in all the same.

Best invention ever will be a shelf that sucks off the dust itself   :(

Love the volcano!

All those dioramas look great some nice feautres in there but, for me my favourites have to be the underwater one because it looks so really like all the fishes are actually swimming through it and the playground because it's got a lot of the bits I had a as a kid carousel, roundabout, see saw, climbing frame it might have been my sisters before I was old enough to play with it  :)
