Xmas comes early ...
« on: December 04, 2012, 11:42:50 »

Got back home after a two and a half month tour of duty in Belgium, and this is what I find. Still havent opened anything yet - theyre MIB, not MISB, to check if there's everything but I'm sure my spares bin will compensate where needed. Especially pleased with the train station, which I got for 49 euro. The 3666, around 90 euro. The 3667, around 50. The ox cart set, I can't remember, but it was definitely a bargain - you see incomplete, unboxes ones going for 30 euro, but this was about half that. Same for the prisoner/cart and the pirate. Also got a MISB friar tuck - my first one - didn't know the box was so small. And other assorted pieces to complete other sets. With this haul, I know own complete, boxed versions of my favourite 90s knights sets. THere are a couple Im still looking for, like a boxed 3627 and 8, but I am sure it can wait till next year. The thing about collecting other things apart from PM is that PM starts looking cheap in comparison. Yeah, a MISB 3627 for around 120 euro would probably be a bargain if you compare it for eg with one of the current LOTR lego sets ... Oh, and I also have an unboxed and incomplete 3740, too. Looking forward to unpacking and completing that.

Awesome loot!

Also got a MISB friar tuck - my first one - didn't know the box was so small.

That was before they went over the edge with those.. Now you get the same in a box that's at least twice as big. RANT.

Yeah, we discussed that and it seems it's not just PM but other companies too. Then again, the 3627 box is quite large too considering it's contents. And that train station one ... keeping in mind the finished, assembled product is much smaller than the 3666; it's still a huge box.

congratulations! is this just stuff you found on your travels or picked up online? great stuff! like so many others here, we're crazy about the medieval steck buildings but, alas, have not managed to grab anything in a box yet (i did manage to get 3667 for $3 at a yard sale over the summer).

i also must agree with you about the aftermarket value ESPECIALLY compared with lego which is truly insane.

would either of you point me to a link about the box size debate?

Thanks. This was all ebay stuff, auctions most of them. I go through periods of watching ebay every day and I end up buying lots of things. But now, as I said, I have MIB versions of most of my favourite sets, and I have loose figures of around 80% of my favourite knight klickies from the 90s which I lug around with me when I travel, so next year Ill start taking it a bit more easy purchase-wise. I don't want to end up with 5 sets of everything - i dont have the space and anyway I collect other toys too, which are more expensive than PM all of them. It's crazy though, to think of it. I think nothing of throwing away the packaging from current themes, but then go on crazy sprees to get old sets in their boxes. It's a bit like that woody allen film with owen wilson, in a way ...

Regarding, the boxes thread, god knows where it is. It was probably somebody going off on a tangent in somebody else's topic.

Fantastic finds!!! How I would love to own that train station  And with the original box, too!

I really like the lost pirate on the raft as well, if I remember correctly it hit the shelves together with the first pirate island. I spent quite a bit of time drewling over those sets, many many years ago (when I had still to rely on pocket money)  ;D

I know what you mean. Too well. I'm VERY dangerous.

I probably ranted on that several times on several threads - just recently regarding the mammoths - I even took a pic with another 2 in there  >:(

WOW! Great lot.  I've wanted ox cart knight for soooo long.  The trains station is an amazing set.  Congrats on some awesome finds Bolingbloke.  You're right, vintage playmo even at high prices is a bargain compared to lego sets.  They're frackin' expensive.

Just checked - the ox cart went for 13.50 euro :P There were other classics in the auction, like the yellow dragon knights set, all boxed, but I didn't want to overbid and lost them. Oh well.
