I've mentioned before on this board: I think one of the best additions Geobra could make is a product line with different types of surfaces. Does any of you have good ideas about this?
These are my suggestions:

- made of material where a klicky can easily stand on. Like a mouse mat (or how it's called, that thing your computer's
  mouse is laying on?)
- different sizes, to order like you order a carpet..  40 cm by...  60, 80, 100 cm whatever..
-should easily be cut by scissors so you can get the size or shape you want.
-different colours/ prints/ structures.. sand, grass, tiles, road, rocky... the idea is you can cut out a 'road' in a 'grass' and  fill it with 'road'.. 

I mean, you can order stuff (freight) to fill your train wagons with, so why not real surface... the way Playmobil would make it and fits with Playmobil (in my opinion is the stuff you can buy for train miniatures much too detailed)

For children, it would be great to complete their playworlds and for adults it would be perfect to make dioramas, videos and pictures...

I think that would open a whole new world with possibilities

Oh, that would be great stuff! Nice to be able to cover tables with. I think the stuff for miniature trains is kind of ugly compared to playmobil, just a little too realistic. And felt or flannel is ok for some kinds of surface but klickys don't stand on it as well. Not to mention us collectors, I think kids would really love it. I always used to wish the baseplates didn't have to end, leaving the ground the klickys were on to be white carpet.

Actually Playmobil did make 'play carpets' (don't know the word in English).
There were several different types: for a farm, for the castle... There were four different ones for each theme, and you could create a big square using all four.
It reminded me of the underground the paymobil kids play on in the micro-sets.

It looked a lot like the 'play carpets' for children with roads, for toy cars. I didn't buy any because they didn't look authentic. And I never saw them appearing in any catalogues or webshops.

I'd absolutly love to buy the surfaces you suggested, Lynx, but somehow I don't think PM will want to accomodate the actual collector/diorama-makers out there. It's all about the kids  :)

Yeah, I remember seeing those, but each one was designed to go with a specific set, with the "footprint" of the building on it, so they allowed no room for creativity. Even in the microsets I find those "footprints" annoying, because it doesn't leave room for variety.

Would be nice if they would have a variety of play carpets. Just gras, water, sand and roads could be displayed on it so it can be decorated any way you want it.

Each of these carpets could contain a bit of playmobil to go with it. Here's some suggestions:


-Grass field with a river.
Included playmobil: small wooden bridge to place over the river, two clickies with a picknick basket and a few bushes and flowers.

-Water all around the sides, brown underground in the middle. (advertised to be used as a moat for castles.)
Included playmobil: several wooden planks tied together to use as either a raft or a makeshift bridge, a well, peasant woman with buckets, a guard with a cape and a torch or lantern  and several crates and barrels.

-Water with several small and larger islands.
Included playmobil: several palmtrees and bushes, a few rocks and two pirates with a rowing boat and some accesoires.

-Several variations of modern roads with grass at the sides.
Included playmobil: different for each variation, could be road workers, bikers, a small car, a traffic cop, road signs, benches, trees and bushes, safety barricades, etc.

-Cobblestone.
Included playmobil: fountain, potted plants, clicky with a broom, street musician.

-Sand.
Included playmobil: several cowboys with a campfire, a tent and several rocks and cactus plants.

-Farmland with a dirt road on the side.
Included playmobil: Farmer with various farming equipment and crops to place on the farmland and several farm animals.


For all of them it would be nice to just have a bit of suitable playmobil with it that can interact very well with the enviroment displayed. Like bridges that fit perfectly over the rivers. Also important that the surface doesnt curl up and can easily be smoothed down.

Hey wow, these ideas are excellent! They're all multi-functional and would suit kids as well as adult collectors.
