Scanning Walls,is it possible?
« on: August 28, 2012, 23:10:53 »
I have scanned.with my scanner many thin accessories for example cd jewel cases etc!Is it possible to scan walls from houses?Then to print these in special blank stickers,in the dimensions we want?And then to stick these printed stickers,in a small bookcase for example?So that creating something like playmobil houses?I know that the doors and windows will be stickers,and they won't open!But for a diorama,I think it's a very good idea!

It sounds like it would be possible to me, but I don't have any to test it with. :-\

The picture of the custom wall shown here:

http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=11440.0

is a scan, not a photograph of the wall, so no problem there.

What I have found difficult is printing them out to the correct size.

Thanks for the info!Yes,printing I think is difficult but when you measure the original construction,the you choose the right dimensions for printing!

If you save the scan as a jpg and you have photo software which allows you to specify a physical size when you print a photo, e.g. 20cm x 30cm, then it is easy printing out to a specific size.  If the software only sizes in pixels, then it is difficult!

Hi.
You need to scan at 300dpi. That's the resolution of most printers, so the parts scanned won't be resized for printing, unless the original part is bigger than an A4 sheet of paper. In this particular case, you will need multiple scans to cover the whole part, then assemble the prints afterwards.
Hope this helps,
A.

Soon you'll be able to scan your Playmo and reproduce it with 3D-printers.  ;)
I've read/seen on a newssite about someone in the US having reproduced almost a complete M-16 rifle that way...  :o  Made me think about something like a Replicator (?)-machine from Star Trek!  8}

Maybe in a few year's time, you won't get out of your home to buy a clicky; you'll just download and 3D-print it from your bed!
