Tried combining my 5301 with my 5300 with no additional parts. Seems other than stack it into a quintiple-story building (including the attic), there's not too much else I can do without at least one more mansion to cannibalize for remaining missing walls. My biggest challenge is the 5300 sections are only 5 windows wide, so when stacked atop the 5301 base which is 6 windows wide there's an extra window's width left over. Tried adding roof pieces to take up this space, but it seems some cutting and hacking is in order to get it to fit up just right. And even with the additional floors, I have the challenge of what to do with the creepy outside doors that lead to NOWHERE (if you stepped out through them you'd fall 5 stories down!). I need some 5301 3-window-wide walls that don't have any doors on them, as well as some more 5300 2-window wide walls. And some wall corners and such. Not an easy task to try to build a PM mansion differently than their original design!
Also not liking the 5301's one-piece floor (which is not modular and is permanently 6 window lengths long unless you cut it. Not to mention the 5301 floors have about 3 inches of depth cut out (so you can see into the house a little better without the obstruction of the floor above it). I don't like it!
I added the 5300's sunroom to the 5301, making it now 8 windows wide on the first floor. But I had to make notches in part of the 5300's sunroom frame to get it to accommodate the 5301's second floor flooring. After all was said and done the house looks "lopp-sided" with everything piled up high on the right side, and not enough on the left side to balance it out. So short of buying one more mansion to use for parts, I think I'll be restoring the buildings back to their seperate and individual forms.
The hardest part was discovering that both houses I purchased were GLUED TOGETHER. I had a hard enough time prying them apart, but now because of the residual hardened glue I cannot put it back together without first removing every trace of left over glue. But I see why they glued them together: if you try to move the house in one piece, it can fall apart easily.
My living room is a horrid mess now. Hopefully I get all the bits and bobs back into place on each set.
