i have a couple from both , they were truly pieces of Art!!!!!  the first one came with all first edition large sets , 3799 , 3740, 3750, and the second with the second edition 3799 island , and 3750 ship

i like the drowning klicky and the other sailor hitting the shark with the paddle your not going to see that in any modern posters

Yes I was just looking at it and it's great that there are little details like that in there, I never thoght that the little boy who is out fishing was using the paddle to hit the shark  if you look closely you can see he's lost his other paddle floating in the sea  incidentally is it just me or does the sea look like it's made of blue jelly?

Cool that would make sense I think, I've seen lots of ships which are the same all be it some with different flags but, which have come with different crews, the crew on the ship in the background of the 1st poster are probably the ones I had as a kid from what I can see but, the desert island figures in the 2nd photo look more like the ones I had.

I like to compare the old ones to the new ones and what it say about societies. The old ones to me seem to have a lot of klickies doing various things. The boy on the ship is working, the stranded sailor is drinking, the other men sailors are also busy, not a lot of violence. If you look at say the 2012 catalog pirate cover you will notice that the emphasise is on sword drawn klickies, the sailor boy does not appear to be doing anything beyond swinging on the cargo loader. Geobra put a similar kid in the same spot but doing totally different things.

well these days they focus more on gimmicks. they add gimmicks to sets and like to draw attention to that in the posters.
Back then the clickies where still the stars of the theme and not the special effects.

I do have to say that the pirate theme might be the strongest historical theme though, the formula is mostly the same as it was from the beginning, and each batch has enough nice things to counter the less good sets within the batch.

Theres plenty of figures that could just be a sailor or commoner instead of a pirate here as well since pirates dont have uniforms or such, which makes the figures quite versatile.

That is definitely true. These old posters show the more sincere feel of the scenes that were presented at that time. It was the same with a lot of other brands too, I'd say. All of the computer effects and such used in the "displays" now - if you can call them that still - are sort of disheartening to me. The scenes just aren't as real and vivid, and the details included by the designers who spent great amounts of time building the older sets just aren't there. Very interesting observations you can't beat the good old stuff  for all that the new Playmobil is great I think I'd mostly be icnlined towards the older sutff it's ot it's own charm and character

societies? what do you mean? was 20 years ago a different society than today?  the thing that destroyed playmo art is the computers i believe, they used their imagination to make these dioramas ,not photoshop  the technology and photoshop could be a + to make even more beauties like these , but they are people with no taste and lazy ,regarding box art. They only look at the profit , which could be much more if they improved their boxes ....catalogs and genuraly their marketing

Yes in my opinion we are more conditioned to accept violence as a norm .

The old poster showed Klickies, young and old working. Now they are portrayed as solving their differences with swords. That is not to say violence was not around but it is now normal and acceptable to advertise to children.

Its a business not an art gallery  Their formula seems to be working quite well in fact. Do we like it, well that is all opinions. Would we like it to be something else, always, but that is open to personal interpretation.

I would love to see more posters from different eras . Please share more
