Great sets so far george  where is Iserox?  ???

It is interesting to see how people/designers conceived of space vehicles back then, in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and how much different they concieve and design them today  ;D

are these models from real space vehicles?  :o :o

I meant in sci-fi terms. The playmosapce station colourfull ''bridge'' resembles the 1960's Kirk's Enterprise bridge

However, the playmobil new space vehicles on wheels do look like actual lunar vehicles, but far more advanced.
The design could also resemble a Mars Rover vehicle (whose design keeps evolving and can be seen as a future truck on the design boards)

Sir Wolf is right. And what a great hommage this space station  was to the very best of Sci-fi  : Star Trek

As we now embark on one of my favoyrite discussions space exploration, i will refere to alex's question with reference also to sir wolf's excellent  post and pictures  above .

The playmospace vehicles are in design and concept very close to what space vehicles were in the late 70s and the early 80s which was the early years for the space shuttle. i think i mentioned that above also too. As far as the playmospace astronauts i think the white/red/yellow ones are almost a carbon copy of the spacesuits in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. Perhaps someone back then in  the design department was paying homage to the Startrek and the 2001 movie. In addition, looking closely to the space vehicles and also the sci fi movies of the era  and one should remember that in the  late 70s 'all  the hip' was about  Sci Fi ( Star Wars, Star Trek: The movie, Space 1999, Galactica, Alien)  they have ' dna strands ' from many of those movies and their spacecraft designs.

Dr. Gargarian's name based loosely on the name of a  Dr. Gibarian character of the movie Solaris ( the 2002 version not the  Soviet  1972 original which btw is superb ).

That's a great collection George.
I'd love some more of the Playmospace sets.
We only have a few, we have more of the modern sets which are OK for the likes of Junior who likes to mix the parts and make his own designs, but the old classic sets have a charm of their own.
