part numbers
« on: March 06, 2012, 07:06:35 »
Hi!

Just wondering if the part numbers can be found on the actual item? I've been trying to use the part number finder on playmodb and always come up with a 'part not found'. It was just recently that I realized I've been entering the mold number!  :P :P :P

So now the question is, is there another way of figuring out what a part is for by cross referencing the mold number or do I just continue to bug you guys with infinite "what is this part for" posts?  ;D

Thanks!

the numbers do follow some rules, Heather of PlaymoDb is the authority here on this, e.g. all fat klikies have certain front numbers etc but I think not so specific that you can decipher what each part is for unless Geobra had planned it this way right from the start....and probably requiring a 10 digit number ;D

do continue to bug us...if we know, we'll be glad to help....good exercise to stave off memory loss ..speaking for myself ;)

I've noticed those numbers too, but i have no clue as to their usage. it would be interesting to find out the connection.

Yeah, that's how legos are identified- by the number that's engraved on the part. The thing is, playmodb also has the mold number listed on the part info (not sure if it's for all parts) but it's not referenced. It would be cool if it can be referenced!  :)

I do have a few mold numbers entered, for pieces I own: they're searchable using the text search. Use the first six or seven digits rather than more, just in case I've left off the last one which is sometimes separated and harder to see. I don't assume a part has a certain mold number - I only enter ones I've seen myself, or that have been submitted by sharp-eyed folks, because there might be differences not visible without the part in hand. It's a tedious process!

Yes, yes, yes! I use that feature several times a week, sometimes several times a day.
