Title: Ironwomen in training-1
Post by: playmogal on November 17, 2011, 03:51:23
Training began today in Raleigh for the 2012 Ironman Triathlon in Panama City, FL. Three local Ironwomen (One, Two and Three) decided to conquer a part of the Great Wall in their first hike of the season after seeing how gorgeous the fallen leaves looked on this hot fall day.

They began their session after a long talk and stretching session on the Great Pumpkin. From there they headed north up the Great Wall pushing their mascot, Trainer their cat, in her own buggy for extra conditioning and because pets are not allowed on this trail. Here they are at the start of their workout....

They really got into the stretching part because it felt good in the hot weather, and they knew what was up ahead along the Great Wall having scouted out their route two weeks ago.

Eventually they managed to stand up and get with it before the strong blasts of hot wind blew them off the Great Wall or buried them in the blowing leaves.

Trainer prefers begin pushed and was trying to nudge them back to life after they almost fell asleep while stretching with their heads down. She was nudging them to get up and get moving so she could ride along the Great Wall like the princess she is.

They quickly gained altitude up the steep wall and made good time along their route in order to beat the tornado watch that arrived during their hike.

Once out on the trail, it is hard for true Ironwomen in training to stop for heavy weather warnings because they are so intently focused on their workout.

Parts of the trail were blocked by sheer walls of rock and huge chasms that had to be hiked around or somehow crossed, which was miraculously done with Trainer in her carriage.

The Ironwomen are used to terrain as steep and challenging as the Real Great Wall, and have trained before on even worse trails in the tropical jungles of Micronesia. So today's high winds and blizzards of monster leaves swirling around their heads could not stop these solidly built gals.

Thanks for the positive comments, folks!
It was a lot of fun moving 1, 2, and 3 and Trainer in the carriage around our front yard in a howling windstorm. They kept blowing over and sliding off pumpkins, but finally finished the course!  See details in Part 2......

So how did 1, 2, and 3 end up training together? They met in a PM LaMaze class a year ago when they looked like baby elephants about to explode.  They swore that they would get in shape after their babies arrived. So their hubbies are at home tending the babies while these new Moms hit the road for a bit.

This is their first effort at long distance training, and they've already decided that they need longer legs to hike a course like this. And they really are tired of hopping along because their legs don't separate or bend. And the bit about their arms not swinging is another problem for an Ironwoman. They quickly decide that they need new bodies....IS ANYONE LISTENING????

Considering their unnatural gaits and posture, they are holding up well at the midpoint of the training hike along the Great Wall....until the first collapse....1 ends up changing places with Trainer, who somehow manages to push the loaded buggy. Then 2 collapses and pushes 1 out of the buggy for a bit.

Tempers are heating up on the Great Wall as all 3 Ironwomen struggle with leg cramps, dehydration (ooops, Trainer forgot to bring the water bottles), and difficulty breathing at such a high altitude. And it certainly does not help that they have not had a full night's sleep in over 18 months.

Trainer advises 1, 2, and 3 to stretch while they rest so they will make it to the end because there is no help along the way, and cell service is nonexistent in the mountains.....they wonder where are all those rescue hunks when you need most them???

Somehow they manage to hop to the end of the Great Wall, and congratulate each other at the end. Trainer is especially proud of the new moms surviving their first serious hike. After they hop off the Great Wall, they manage to bounce up on another Great Pumpkin and stretch a bit more before resting.

Home they will go....back to their roles as new Moms and not a minute for themselves during the long days. But it was refreshing to take off with the gals on such an exciting excursion amid the colorful leaves and warm weather. Until next time, xoxoxoxo, 1,2,3 and Trainer

BB: Thanks! In just two days, it turned yellow under the crepe myrtles and red under the Japanese maples in a blizzard of leaves! If we blow them across the street, they just blow back with all the neighbors' leaves! So we tend to leave them for a while, and they usually blow down the hill to the end of the cul-de-sac, where they have no room for them either....ugh! Luckily the city picks them up about 3 times each fall, so that helps.

We put in a call to the 123 Rescue and Amublance Squad when neither 1,2, or 3 could stand  up from resting resting on the Great Pumpkin after their long hike. Trainer ended up pounding their backs and legs until they managed to roll over and stand up.

Almost needed some evacuation service, but their 3 ambulances were tied up at a major wreck on Hwy 64 in which a blue 123 convertible was headoned by a 123 green tractor after Farmer Joe's herd of cattle got spooked and jumped out of the trailer and hit the road while he was crossing the busy intersection. Poor Farmer Joe. Lotsa local folks are grillin' and eatin' steak tonight. Details to follow.
