I couldn't wait any longer to introduce her to you Playmofriends! She is actually unfinished but as I don't know how long will it take the missing parts to arrive I decided to show her like this. Belt, face and sandals still to be changed.
This was a very long and hard work. Over 2 months working on and off of course. A lot of research, testing, modeling and painting. And I'm very happy with the results. In fact a couple of other Geishas are already in the designing table.
The parasol was made out of a Victorian parasol, a Victorian kin and a bicycle wheel. ;D
The Kimono and Obi made out of a sort of modelling paste. As well as the hairdo.
All the decoration hand painted.
I hope you like her!

Very nice!

Your artistic talent is excellent Gaston :wow:! Such beautiful details! Magnificent contribution !
-
My my you have been holding out on us indeed! I really love it! And the hand-painting is so detailed! Bravo, bravo! Can't wait to see the others!
Are you using Fimo modeling clay? (the kind that you bake in the oven, and after curing remains solid, but sort of rubbery and flexible?) Or does the clay dry hard and brittle? I'm most curious about the add-on (snap-on?) sleeves and trails.
I love the hair ornaments as well! Did you use the legs/feet/slippers from the victorian bathroom girl?
-
:omg: :omg: Magnificent custom Gaston!!!!
Great detailed work, and it certainly reflects the patience and long hours and especially love that you've put into this!!! :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

Wow! Thank you each and everyone of you for the very positive comments! I'm very happy you like her!
I've been keeping this project a secret, sorry  (is that what hold out on someone means????) I had this idea months ago when in Playmobil USA facebook there was a poll about what new theme you would want Playmobil to develop. I said "Victorian" Japan... 1800's Japan that would be. ;D And as I didn't see a playmo Geisha before (correct me if I'm wrong) I wanted to be the first
@Gis...I think that an Asian face would be an improvement ;). as well as a more geisha-like sandals. That's all I'm thinking about changing.

The sandals are a loan from a monk . I still have to get the ones I'll use. They will look more like japanese slippers.
I use a paste that doesn't need oven. It uses as base a plastic glue so the result is more rubbery or firm according to the amount of glue that you add. The "pro" is that it is very versatile and dry slowly so you can change the final shape in the process. And when it is dry it is not hard-rock... so it is easy to cut, like plastic. The "con" is that as it is rubbery it is very hard to sand down so you have to be very neat.
The sleeves started as snap-on sleeves. But they kept falling so I glued them.
Thank you ALL again!
Gaston.

I am so amazed at the detail in the painting and modelling.
I thought your Victorian ladies were wonderful but you have excelled yourself with her - I would think that she couldn't be improved upon, but please show her again when you decide she is finished.

Yeah you got the right idea about what to hold out on us means, though what I meant was that you concealed the fact that you are such an artist. Not that your other work isn't fantastic, but this is absolutely incredible!
What is the name of the paste you use for modeling? It sounds quite useful.
-
oh ok Bonnie thanks a lot for calling me an artist!! ;D ;D ;D I see what you meant, thanks a lot!
This particular paste have not a commercial name. It is home made. I buy it at a hobby store in Buenos Aires. The owner makes it, I'm trying to get the recipe but he wouldn't give it. he also prepares a fantastic chrome paint that I'll show soon in other customs!
The closest thing would be what we call Cold Porcelain. I think you call it the same. Though cold porcelain is not that easy to work with. I tried it with not very good results.

good idea!
so far I know 2 ingredients: Simple paper glue (the white one) and cornstarch (according to google traductor that's the name of it. a sort of flour used for bakery) I know there's more.... I'll try to do my job better next time I go to the shop dr. Watson! :sherlock:
;D
-
  (and yes, cornstarch is the right word)

Ah yes, the face that launched a thousend junks.
Excelent, tonguello!! Can you please tell us more about that compound and glue you used? What is it called? What kind of glue?
-
Thanx Ali!!! ;D
As I said before, the product is home made, so it doesn not have a comercial name nor brand. I buy it in a hobby store in Buenos Aires, the owner makes it. I know the glue used in the product is the simplest white glue used for glueing paper. As it is part of the paste it is also the best product to glue the parts to the clicky.
Sorry I can't help with more.... I was very lucky to find this. Only problem is I'll be lost if this guy goes out of bussiness without telling me the recepy!
-
Hmmm, that is a pity. Does it shrink when it dries?
-
Hmmm, that is a pity. Does it shrink when it dries?
no it doesn't. but for example the part that surrounds the arm tend to expand when drying... that is why later it kept falling and I had to glue it to the arm.
-
She's beautiful, tonguello! I love her kimono especially.
-
Thank you Justin!

-
Thank you Macgayver! ;D

gaston
she is absolutely exquisite. your last photo of her by the pond also adds to her delicate nature. i like her parasol and the details to the inside of the ribbing. what part of a bicycle wheel did you use? your painting is very delicate, her kimono drapes so nicely and her hair is great, with excellent choice of ornamentation materials to match the scale. what do you plan to do to her obi and belt? congratulations on an lovely lady. keep her carefully guarded in her tea house, there will be many conquests for her!

Thank you Kaethe, el jefe and Sylvia... your lovely words still amaze me!
Kaethe the obi is pretty done, I just need to add the belt. I think I can do it tomorrow. Thank you so much!
Sylvia you are a master of customs so it is a pleasure you like mine!
-
Kaethe...I just remembered your question.... for the parasol I used the rays of the bike wheel. I carefully cut the rest off. :xmascheer:

Gaston, I was just looking at this again, and you did such a great job on her hair! I'm impressed. How did you do it? The same modeling paste?
-
Bonnie that is a good question. I did not use that paste for the hair, but a normal two component clay...the sort that is hardrock in 10 minutes.
the hair was the most dificult part to make and give form. I tried several looks with the other paste but as it takes 24hs to dry and I was never happy with the result, I decided to go for that fast dry one, that also is harder so it is easier to sand down and re-touch ;D
I love the outcome now!
Hope this helps!
-
Yes it does, thanks!
-
Wow. :)
-
Amazing! Brilliant! This is not Customizing, this is Art!
-
Wow! thanks Bennain! ;D
Thank you Andy!

even accurate how your geisha is not just a normal woman in a normal kimono, but how you accurately leave the back of her collar hanging to reveal the nape of her neck the way a geisha differs from a non-geisha!
bravo!
-
 Wow! Absolutely incredible. She is so beautiful...you should definitely make some more!
-
Thank you everyone! I really don't have much time until January 8th.... I will make others as soon as I can! :)

Im so glad you noticed that!!!! I even wanted to paint the nape of her neck white but as I didn't paint the face I thought it would look weird.
