Starting the year with the polar reviews:
Polar Sets 2016 (link at playkingdoms) (http://www.playkingdoms.com/pk2/library/articles/polar2016/polar2016.aspx)
First, the base: 9055 - Polar Explorers Base (link at playkingdoms) (http://www.playkingdoms.com/pk2/library/articles/polar2016/9055p1.aspx)
Best part is the klickys! Shame about the cannon.
More at the link.
I will add the other two soon.... I didn't get the cars, so won't be reviewing those.

There are lots of things I love about this, and the cannon is easily replaced with a white rock piece I think. Specifically this one (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-24-1760). Not at the top of my list for the series but I will definitely get it when it reaches the US.

Yep, that's what I said ;D
Still, imo, it "cheapens" the set.

Great review. I'd hardly glanced at this set before; I guess the whole fighting thing had put me off; that's not my idea of polar exploration! But now seeing it - cannon aside - it's a really nice set. And, yes, those klickies are wonderful!

The sets are great (cars excepted - though there is a couple of nice klickys there too!).. the cannon IS stupid. But gorgeous!
EDIT: actually, you just proved my point. To include those cheapens the sets, actually makes the theme worse. ::)
And here is the second: 9056 - Polar Bears with Explorers (link at playkingdoms) (http://www.playkingdoms.com/pk2/library/articles/polar2016/9056p1.aspx)
New polar bears!

And that shirt! Gods, it's GORGEOUS!

Nice review. I actually think the older polar bear adult looks chubbier than the new one, but agree about the cub. I think the big difference is the use of the two part molding to do the eyes and nose instead of painting. They have been big lately on painting black eyes on all sorts of animals, but it works much better when they are molded rather than painted. Definitely an upgrade on the adult as well with the mouth and tongue.

I agree. It can be replaced, but most customers want sets they can use straight without having to buy extra parts to make them look better.

And the last one (I'm not buying the cars, shame about the klickys)
Polar Sets 2016: 9057 - Polar Dogsled (link at playkingdoms) (http://www.playkingdoms.com/pk2/library/articles/polar2016/9057p1.aspx)

These are sooooo awesome. And those parts!

Love it! So t appears that you could add more dogs to the sled?
This is one of my favorite upcoming sets!

Yep (did you see page 2? there's a photo in the end :) ) - what we REALLY need is an add-on with 2 or 4 harnessed dogs....
We will need to get at least the harnesses from parts... I think it would be nice to use the old dogs in one of the new sleds... But I am also missing plenty of dog harnesses (the part they "dress") for those....
-
Great set, I really like this one. I am super hopeful about add-ons this year. I really really hope they have the igloo available this time. it would be a big missed opportunity if they don't.

Completely agree... AND another "dog team"... I still find 4 pups too few.
AND an eskimo family to go with those two guys (read - a family in gorgeous brownish/greyish colors)
-
That dog sled set is a good classic looking one, no stupid laser weapons, lots of appropriate gear. And I agree an Eskimo family would be great.
-
All three polar sets have some great parts. I love the metal detector made of various existing parts. Is there a member of playmofriends working for Geobra perhaps? ;D
In your review you put the old dogsled set next to the new one and wondered which was more accurate. As i have done dogsledding in Swedish Lapland i know a thing or two about it. First of all the arrangement of the dogs, two by two behind eachother, is much more realistic then all dogs next to eachother. Having sleddogs arranged all next to eachother would wreack havoc and all dogs entangled in to the ropes. But strangely enough the older set's harnasses are more realistic then the new ones, which are far too bulky.
The new husky's are great!

Thanks for the very nice review tahra!! I like these three sets very much. It's a theme I don't have and it is time to add it in my collection!!
George. :)

(gah, must have seen this from the tabby.... so I didn't answer! :-[ )

Well, we are all in agreement.. now let's see if playmobil is too.. I am not very confident.

It is isnt't it? A perfect example that they can come up with different and interesting stuff without actually making new parts...

Thank you. Come to think of it, whenever we see dog sleds (in the Amazing Race, I think :-[ ) they are always two by two... (hands of blue? Oh, no, wait, that's something else!)
But strangely enough the older set's harnasses are more realistic then the new ones, which are far too bulky.

Besides being bulkier they are orange! I mean the ... I fail to come up with two names - the dog's "vest" (orange) and the brown things that those attach to to the sled... Do those have diffent names?
The brown part looks odd, imo... I still think it really looks like Lego. (not that I have any recent - as in less than 30 years - lego sets)
It's a theme I don't have and it is time to add it in my collection!!
Past time!! :P
