Title: MimmaBlue's Collection
Post by: MimmaBlue on January 13, 2014, 01:03:32
Hey all, thought I would start a thread about my (rather haphazard) and modest 'collection'.

My main focus is my figures and specials. I like that they are affordable, gorgeous, and don't take up much space. I had shelves put up in my home office and just love looking at them. My kids are allowed to borrow them.  ;)

I can't really put up anymore shelves  :( so I think as I get more figures I will have rotate them and put 'away' my not so favourite ones. I'd love some advice/ideas on how to display them, in themes, in series? I kind of like how random they all are ATM, aside from my least favourite ones being on the top shelf.  ;)

And here is a glimpse into the collection the kids have in their shared room. I have ALL the boxes stored in the roof. I love my small blue divided boxes from Ikea for storing the small pieces.

I'll try and do an inventory of all the sets I have.

Great display of your collection, the storage boxes seem to be just the ticket!

Love those shelves

And those boxes seem really handy! I'm still struggling to organize mine... :-[

those narrow shelves are what I needed in the past to put small themes (I collect mainly klickies without buildings)...did you have the carpenter specially construct them? or are they from Ikea too? (see too narrow for other uses)

I got these from my local (very large) hardware store. I think Ikea have some metal shelves like these. They are sold/marketed as shelves you use to display picture frames, hence why they are so narrow.

Cool collection. Those shelves look great. I think they look fine random (or sorted with your favourites lower), but you could also sort them based on series of Fi?ures they are from, if you want.

I love the way you're displaying all the figures. They look great!

And the zoo your children put up is

I should get some of those storage boxes too...

Great looking display. You have enough height there you could use small blocks so some figures are higher, then put others more in front of them. Might be worth a try unless it looks too busy for you. I've crammed an amazing number of figures onto shelves in the past. Now they mostly live in boxes.

Nice looks like you and your kids have both got good collections, I like the way you've done your figures they look very smart personally I try to arrange most of mine by theme and try to do little scenes so it looks like you're catching them going about ehir lives but, there's no right or wrong way to do things and as long as you're happy with it that's the important thing  :)

oooohhh, will definitely give that a try! With some of them I have put some of the accessories away and that helps with the busyness etc.

I've used the block thing in my collection too. I got a 2X2 piece of wood and cut it into 4 inch pieces, painted them, and set them towards the back of the shelf. They work great. I also thought of getting those kids play blocks with the letters on the sides for some whimsy, but they're way more expensive than I thought they'd be.

As for organising them, I like what you did. My collection is mostly klickys, animals, and a few small odds and ends. I've toyed with the idea of grouping them all by color because it might be more visually appealing, but they way I have them now feels like it tells a bit of a story, so I haven't futzed around with doing that. But you're more than welcome to try the idea out.

The Figures look very good this way. I like them more and more! I enjoy my collection more when I  change my display once in a while. I like doing that. The rearranging is a lot of fun.

You zoo looks nice.

I love the way you have the figures displayed.  They look great on those white shelves against the white wall.  And I like them in the random order too.  Great use of Playmobil to make cheerful, colorful and fun "art" for your office wall.

Thanks for posting.

What do we think of stepping up a second row of figures? Of course the rise in the back will be white and I might just use one long thin piece of wood.

I don't think it looks too busy and actually gives some figures some extra 'air' around them.

I think one long white rise in the back of each shelf would look great. It would give them a bit more elbow room (well, at least until you buy more klickies ).

I bought all the timber today and it's been cut and spray painted.  ;D

While that is drying I rearranged all the figures into colours. I can see now where some figures need to be moved. I like it, but I think I like the random a bit better. It is fun rearranging them.  :-[

And here are the new 2-tiered shelves. Still 17 figures per shelf, but I kind of like the extra dimension of the 2nd level. See my whole empty shelf at the top? Not empty for long.  ;)

You guys will tell me if I am boring you all with all my very similar photos?  :-[

That looks great, the figures seem less crowded and you can really see each one better. Are you able to get the Figures series in Australia locally? If not be aware we do a figures co-op here at PF and you would be welcome to take part.

I do have a really good supplier here in Australia who says he will get series 6 as a soon as they are released in Germany. They are expensive here though, AUD$5 each. He has said he will help me get a full set as we'll so I don't waste money on duplicates.

I'd love to hear about the co-op though when it comes around and compare costs of getting them here and via the co-op including postage etc.

This place is awesome.

I have made quite a few eBay purchases lately.  :-[ In anticipation of my crazy calendar project, and being on this forum! Anyway, will add photos as the mailman brings them to me. This was a local pickup off eBay in Australia, a nice little mixed lot. I really love the fort, I can imagine Vikings hiding or princesses have a tea party in there.

Here are the figures and accessories that I got as well. Forgot to include a skeleton in a hiding hole in the fort though.

What a beautiful way to display a collection.  Each figure gets some air and space around it to really shine.  Love the groupings too!

Congrats on the ebay haul.  I especially love the 3836 Good Fairy.  That figure is so versatile, it can go Roman or Medieval or good old Magic.  She's my top favorite female Klicky.  And love the clever use of double-height torches on the pallisaded fort.

Thought it was time to update you all on 'the wall'.

This is how it is looking now with 5 double shelves. The bottom shelf is currently for specials etc.

What will I do when Series 6 comes out? Give up the bottom shelf? Or perhaps put aside my less favourite figures and rearrange the remaining shelves. I know you are all on the edge of your seats to find out.  ;) I am dying to rearrange them all.
