Great to see you relieved :-).

Would you call it "low relief house" then or how would you refer to it?

jj:
Yes, a low relief house would be fine a a description.

Great videos by the way.

In American model railroading the low relief buildings are commonly called 'flats' so you were not far wrong. The concept itself is common in model railroading though not to everyone's taste. I like the use of them here.

Cheers for that! I DO prefer real buildings, but sometimes you just don't have the room to place them. Then low relief is a great solution and looking much better than just a painted background.

Danke schön! Mir gefallen echte Häuser auch besser, doch manchmal fehlt einfach der Platz dafür. Dann finde ich Kulissenhäuser deutlich schöner als bloß ein gemalter Hintergrund.

That's interesting, Tim.  I'd say that in the UK a "flat" (ignoring that it is the English name for what in the USA is called an apartment) would be a building with no depth, just a front, like the buildings used in the early  movies and probably still so today to some extent.  But a low relief building would be one that was more than just a front.  So in the video, the blue and white building would be a flat, but the buildings either side would be described as in low relief or low relief buildings.

Vertical sections of scenery are known as flats in the theatre too. OUP: "an upright section of stage scenery mounted on a movable frame"
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

Neues vom Garten - und nicht flach sondern absolut 3D: Ein neuer Schienenbus.

News from the garden - not flat but full 3D *g*.  A new railbus (as the bogie railbus doesn't like my garden tracks due to too many unsmooth track connections).

What's that ment to be, mate?
- A new railbus as the former one's causing too much trouble out in the garden.

What a muck's that?!?
- New brass handles, another of our Fat Controller's great ideas!

That DOES look good!
- Wood look stlye

What a craft and staff!
- Looking forward to its first garden run!

They really DID a great job!
