Weren't you in Brussels too, lately?. Or was it Malta?  :!: Wait, wasn't it London as well?!
I could be wrong, but are you travelling a lot around Europe?
You could be our ideal supplier for exclusive or rare sets from different countries!  ;D

Getting someone to pick up rare sets during a trip is becoming harder.

It appears that the larger/new fees to charge the first bag one checks on many US airlines are going to be a problem for buying a lot of PM on any trip now in the US unless one flies Southwest or has free baggage privileges on a carrier through a credit card, etc.

This week I have a friend staying near the Florida FunPark, and the baggage fees are just too high for her to bring back the things I would like to buy on sale there. And it is too expensive to ship them from there. So nothing is coming home from West Palm. Ugh! Pgal

It could be worse. Try shipping whole pieces of furniture transatlantically to see those shipping fees rocket  ::)

I rarely - if ever - shop for PM when I'm abroad. Mostly because 1) i tend to go to places where they barely have anything to eat ... let alone PM 2) when i go to 'civilised' countries, PM is dearer than it is in Malta or Belgium. France is useless for buying PM, for eg. As is the UK.

(this reminds me of the time we went to Kenya. we were going to visit a masai village at one point, so before leaving i bought a couple of masai specials for the children. then i got greedy and left them at home  ::) ;D ;D ;D)

Broke: Hahahaha! You are very funny!

So are you in the furniture business or what? You must be buying in developing countries?

It always is difficult knowing what to take the natives, especially the first time in a unique  Third World country.

Before we go to China to visit daughter in laws family, I spend about 20 hours over two months shopping the nearby TJ Maxx stores for luxury clothing in womens Extra Small sizes. You see, most of the clothing sold in the US comes from China, but it is not sold there. Their clothing is mostly junk, so they really appreciate the nicer Chinese stuff that is sold in the US.

We carry huge rolling bags loaded with clothing for their extended family because most Chinese own about 10 pieces of clothing. And they go wild trying on everything in the rolling bags and trade until they get what they want. It is one of the most entertaining things we have done in China. Lots and lots of fun!

And we have empty bags for bringing things back if we find anything to bring. Normally it is artwork, so this works out quite well. Once it was a L house set that we could not find in the US, but DIL bought in China for us wtihout knowing we were looking for that exact set! If you need gifts for Chinese hosts, take nice clothing, and they will love you. Not sure they would like a Masai warrior special!

Any other gifts folks like taking abroad? Tried to give PM to anyone? Cheers, Pgal

No. But I have a keen interest in furniture - especially the mid-century Modern style that was all the rage in the US in the 40s and 50s. (I also have a keen interest in American culture ... but that's another story).

I went to China a couple of years ago. I'm not sure I would like to go again. HK was great, though. HK and New York .... my favourite cities in the world  :)

Yup, those are some nice designs...the US modern furniture movement of the century. I grew up wanting to be an architect, and have always adored Frank Lloyd Wright homes partly because his furnishings. Aalvar Aalto is another favorite; have seen many of his buildings in Scandanavia.

Would be cool if PM made more furniture based on some of those styles as I really like the modern stuff, too. The new sets for 5302 were a big step forward.

And a home or two based on Fallingwater in Pennsylvania would be great! I own the L model, and it is way too small because they used an even smaller scale for their architectural series.

Any ideas for chairs or sofas or tables that you think would work in PM? Pgal
