The chronicles of Mittland Part 03 Time of the wolves

However not all of ARTRAC's faithful followers were ready to terminate the fight. Highlord TREMOR wanted to be loyal also beyond ARTRAC's death for his king. He instructed to continue the attack. But a well purposeful arrow stretched him down from his own rows. Highlord DRAC expected a similar fate. A supremacy of his former followers opposed  him and a few of his last loyal men. But before DRAC could be taken imprisoned, he directed his sword against himself and followed ARTRAC into death.

Thus ARTRAC's armed forces were decomposed from the inside without much effort of the rebels. The remaining lords were taken either imprisoned or found just like the highlord's death. The rebels were victorious over the almost invincible enemy. After the wounded ones were supplied and the dead ones buried, JURAS together with NIHRA, SELVIC and BE'THAK reported maximumpersonally queen SELLINAS about the victory over ARTAC and his soldiers.

At the same time messengers were sent to the gate fortress with the message to grant to the disarmed dragon soldiers the passage unhindered so that they could return to their families. No further blood should be poured more. In the rubble of the mountain fortress joy fires were kindled. The warriors sat together until deep into the night and celebrated their victory.

But the disillusionment already came for the leaders of the rebels the next day. Queen SELLINAS had invited all of them to a meeting in her castle. A battle was struck, but whether the war was to end, they did not know it yet. TRACANSIS was fugitive with two dragons, and an ARTRAC'S vassal was still ruling the Far Country.

Chapter XVI.

Gradually TRACANSIS' mourning over the death of his father was replaced by the anger over the defeat. TRACANSIS continued to steer his dragon higher and higher into the sky. Gradually the cool wind clarified his thoughts. He recognized that this battle had been won by the opponent. But he did not want to give the war yet lost. First he had to secure the rule in the Nordreich. In his own kingdom of Mittland he did not believe himself reliably, if only the customer of the defeat spread there. And the population would experience it fast, he doubted no instant long.

Also he had not to neglect in his considerations the Ferne Land. As long as the dark caliph prevailed there, he possessed still another second base. The second dragon would help the caliph to receive his dominion. He found even favours at the situation gradually. He had confessed in his father's shade, but now his own game could start. Drunk of the speed of the dragon and the new feeling of power he landed almost amused in the hiding place in the mountains of Weltend.

His mother, lady CHRONA, expected him already with ARTRAC'S bodyguard and the dragon attendants. Already from a distance they had observed TRACANSIS' approach. Hardly that he had set his feet on the ground, the attendants discovered fully frightened their ruler lying instead of sitting on the second dragon. When the second dragon had landed, TRACANSIS pulled his dead father of the back of the animal. While the dragon attendants led their favorites to the cages, TRACANSIS carried the dead body of his father to his mother and removed the spear from the body.
