A matter of Templates !

Just like for my previous work, I will create colour coordinated templates made from silk wrapping paper which I will position over the diorama showing for example a future red brick path or a water feature and I will replace with the real material or item as I will go along  ;)

Here are the colored templates I will use on this diorama and what they will represent  :) :

Green for Grass & Lawn Area

Terracotta for Red Brick Alley

Blue for Fountain or Water feature

Black for the Regent St road pavement

Yellow for the Yellow Brick Alley

Silk wrapping paper is a rather cheap inexpensive material which costs 1.13 Euros for 6 sheets measuring each 50 x 75 cm.

It not only provides an excellent colour coordinated visual of the diorama to come but most importantly can be cut to exact measurements of a landscape feature no matter how intricate it is. This is one of the best tips I can share with you as one just has to apply a piece of silk wrapping paper on top of the desired diorama layout area and draw on it a template using a fine pencil. All you will then have to do will be positioning the cut silk wrapping paper template on the material such as grass, soil or brick sheet and cut out the required piece without suffering any wastage of material  ;)

Be Creative !

Just like in real life, creating a diorama does not always go according to plans and one must learn to compromise and adapt to certain situations  ;)

A recent example was trying to purchase the soil effect sheet from my usual supplier and find out that they ran out of it...

I have used this material for years and know that it does look great "in situ", but it was not available to purchase so I worked out a plan B with a little dare as I simply went for a dollhouse dark brown colored carpet which I received this morning and does look the part  :

It is self adhesive so does come in very handy to cut and just put in situ for a future "flower bed".

It costs 2.64 Euros for one sheet measuring 50cm x 35cm.

Laying the Brick Paths !

I have used the same red brick printed sheet to cover the alleys around Regent St as it takes what looks rather red on the picture becomes a warm tone terracotta colour which makes a great contrast with the surrounding lawns or small box like dark green hedges  :) :

Red Brick Path ( covering all paths & patios excluding the path running in front of the Mansion and the paths around the vegetable & fruit garden )

Very versatile, it costs 5.25 Euros for three sheets measuring a 40cm x 30cm each

Here are the additional brick printed or embossed sheets which will be used on this diorama  ;) :

Grey Brick Path ( Pedestrian walk by Regent St Road )

It costs 0.99 Euros per sheet and measures 30cm x 21cm

Yellow Brick Path ( Path running in front of the Mansion and paths around the vegetable & fruit garden )

It costs 1.80 Euros per sheet and measures 43cm x 30cm

Black Brick / Pavement Road ( covering the surface of Regent St Road )

Each plastic embossed sheet costs 4.50 Euros and measures 39cm x 26cm for a great pavement effect !

Finally, here is a little glimpse of the grand fountain which will be featured as a background to the exotic water garden by the summer pavillion  ;) :

Monsieur Firmin & Miss Periwinkle should start working on the outside dĂ©cors of Regent St in the next few days so please stay tuned for further updates soon  :)...

Good afternoon dear Friends

As I am taking you along with on my journey of creating this diorama, I would like to share with you my two crushes and ideas I had recently for the hedge & brick posts that will run in front of the Mansion.

I intially thought of putting street lights on top of the brick posts but they will be too high and out of proportion with our Klickies so I invite you to discover the style I want to give to the portion of the wall which will run in front of the fruit & vegetable garden featuring on Apple Tree in the middle and a luscious pot of cascading strawberries on top of the post. This will set the mood for the fruit & vegetable garden behind and works quite well together  ;) :
