6042 Ghost - details please
« on: October 23, 2015, 07:38:46 »
Does anyone have this blinky winky ghost and can post a pic of the thing's arms next to the older klicky ghost?

They are supposed to be klicky arms, I think... but we're wondering if they are white like the old ghost, or somewhat transparent...

I am REALLY considering getting the darn thing for the arms, but let's say it'll be the most expensive pair of arms EVER.

They are solid white like the old arms, but with hanging sleeves.

Almost more importantly, the whole thing is assembled from the bottom and I suspect it would be very difficult to get it all apart to get to the arms. Not a simple pop job. Without taking mine apart I don't even know if the arm joint would be the same. Plastic on it is translucent - some light does go through so not solid like a regular klicky arm.

Ah, that is what I was afraid of... and why I wanted to see that original pic, right next to the old one..

I THINK at the time, someone at the PCC said they ARE klicky arms... I might have to break the thingamajig to get at them... And it's not exactly cheap, so I wanted to make sure they are what I want BEFORE getting it. Cause for us it's useless but for the arms, and we gave them up when we saw the price.... until now.

Uhm. Klicky arms.. These days that is a bit incomplete.  >:(  I need NORMAL ADULT arms. No kid, no speedos. GAH.  ::)

Agreeing with Tim - the arms ARE a little translucent, & the klicky is all one piece, probably due to the electronics involved. There is no klicky underneath the "ghost" like the older ones. I don't think you can take it apart. It takes a AAA battery, which fills up pretty much the inside of the thing. It seems pretty solid.

I can take better pics for you if you want - I just happened to take this one yesterday along with a bunch of other shots of the ghosts in a cemetery near me.

Thank you for the pic!

Does it look like a proper klicky arm to you? Is it the same size? We don't plan to light up the klicky, so the diference in "solidity" (is that a word?) is probably not very relevant...

I am ALMOST sure that it was confirmed to have proper klicky arms. Of course, I can't find that.  ::)

Er, no. Sorry Tahra, the arms will fit a standard klicky, but not very well, they won't really rotate and they tend to pop out. I will post pics in a little while.

We got one of these ghosts as a FREE GIFT from DS yesterday, and a vet game (lame dogs, lame game) free too, along with some DS sets. The base is held on with two screws; once the base is off, you can see the way the arms are held in place and they are quite easy to pop out, so I did. Pics to follow, as I said....
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

Oh.  :'(   They would be SO perfect.

(You get REALLY nice gifts there too - don't badmouth the color puppies!. I only get ignored.)

Underside of the ghost (remove two screws marked V):

Inside the ghost (arm lugs are marked ^)

Arm removed

I played with the contrast and exposure to show the arm better:

Arm, fitted to a reg'lar klicky (it aint a perfect fit!)

The arm rotates, but is inclined to pop out

WARNING: removing the arm loosens it when you put it back in the ghost: this picture shows that the arm I removed (nearest) won't stay raised- this is the highest it will rest now I have pulled it out a couple of times!

It not only changes colour but glows in the dark! Brilliant! (I expect this has been reviewed elsewhere)

Our free gift is usually a lamish gane, tahra, so this ghost was a pleasant surprise. May Geobra learn from the PCC stats how big a fan base there is in Iberia!
