5414 - Panda Researcher in the Bamboo Forest
5272 - WWF-Panda Researcher in the Bamboo Forest

Set: 5414 & 5272
Description: (WWF-)Panda Researcher in the Bamboo Forest
Theme: Safari / Wildlife
Release date: 2012 (5272); 2013 (5414)
Value for money: High
Extra parts: No.

Review:

A double review, as both sets are pretty much the same set. What are the differences?
- 5414 has the Zebra stickers on the motorcycle
- 5272 has WWF stickers on the motorcycle, helmet and left chest of klicky aswell as on the box.
- 5272 has WWF logo on the box and some extra text on the bottom of the front side.

The klicky in the 5272 is actually the same one as in the 5414, BUT it has the WWf logo printed on his left chest. The helmet in thw WWF set also has the WWF logo printed on the front, whilest this is not the case in the 5414 set.

The sets are very nice and complete. 2 adult and 2 baby panda's, a nice landscape base with a cave and a stone-bridge for the panda's to crossover.
A couple of bamboo pieces and a tree. On the base there is a small rock and a plant with flowers. The researcher has a nice motorcycle, with a travellers bag, binoculars and a camera to take some pictures of the panda's. To navigate his way around, there is a navigation unit available.

Inside the box is a cardboard innerbox, which holds the contents. 3 bags with parts and instructions and the base.
1 bag with all the greens and rocks, 1 bag with the panda's, bike and klicky. The last bag has the instructions, stickersheet, the strap and strangely enough: the flowers with a piece of rock, bamboo and the navi packed in a small seperate bag.

Even with that hair the klicky looks nice. The rolled-up sleeves and the trousers make it a proper researcher. I think the WWF logo looks very nice on the klicky. On the other hand, the 5414 klicky is more interchangeable.
The set is pretty straight forward to assemble, though the bamboo pieces are pretty hard to put in the holes on the base without braking or bending them. More an adult task then for a child.

Thanks for the detailed review.  I was wondering why you got two of these - explained! :)

I think it is VERY VERY lame that the WWF sets aren't available all over. I believe it is the first time playmobil supports such a cause?

We got a couple of the WWF sets from Germany (with the help of a playmofriend, of course).. but not this one. It is nice - though I think that triple bamboo thing is not very pretty - I mean, it would look better as individual ones, no?

Thanks for the comparison review.
I like the triple bamboo since you can put a bigger looking thing in a single base plate hole. The individual ones are a little nicer I agree, but still the triple one is useful.

thnx Tahra. I can get you one, the WWf is available abundantly here in NL. The Wildlife one is pretty hard to get right now.
Price ranges from €15 to 20€ right now.
I agree with Tim, the triple one isn't that bad. It's usefull.

Thanks for the excellent review, it was as if I were opening the boxes myself  :)

I got the zebra-one with the okapi's, but the WWF ones look so much better...

While both sets are nearly identical as you pointed out, 5272 just seems inherently more innocent. Probably because that panda logo, for me at least, is equated with friendliness and all-around integrity.

Thanks for sharing your review! :)

Now that you mention it, there is a hint of malevolence in 5414. Like the pandas are about to jump the motorcyclist.

Yes, notice how the pandas in 5414 are all in prime position for an ambush, while the pandas in 5272 are simply observing the proceedings and offering a friendly greeting to the researcher.

Obviously I'm kidding as the sets are identical, although I do think that since the WWF logo is subconsciously equated with environmental commitment, the set just seems more innocent and "friendly", if you will. Since the zebra logo can't be traced to any real company, the motives of the researcher in 5414 are very ambiguous. This is a toy so I'm probably getting into unnecessary detail. Oh well, just my thoughts.
