I thought it might be helpful to start a separate thread on this.  I hope you don't mind.

I've just done some measuring up and the big Beachtown layout fits in a 7'6'' x 4'8'' space, allowing for a bit of room outside the area..

I'll provide measurements for the other modules (i.e. Seaport, the quarry siding, Farm Halt and Pond End).  These can be joined directly to each other or have track between and can be swapped in and out as space allows, although Beachtown and Seaport are designed as termini and so are essential to a layout.

I'll post plans of the modules with their sizes.

As yet, the bridges aren't in a module but that will probably change.

As I understand it you have two terminal modules - Beachtown and Seaport.  What are the characteristics of these?  Do they both have a station/goods yard?

Beachtown seems larger nearly 8ft long.  It the other terminus is 8ft long then there would be 16ft remaining in the middle.  I am limited to 32ft length but could add another 8ft after a 90 degree turn.

I am thinking of a split level display with the trains operating around 9 inches above fields, beach etc.  I was not anticipating any sidings or halts along the course of the track, though this does not rule it out. Any loop or terminus would be at the higher level.  I was thinking of a possible harbour at one end.  It would require a 4472 cargo ship and 7475 crane etc.

Both have space for a platform.  Beachtown with the internal sidings has more room for a goods yard.  Seaport just has a goods siding.

Seaport is shorter by about a foot, I think, but I'll check and see.  16ft would allow room for a passing loop and I have two bridges which could be incorporated, even if they don't actually go over a valley or road.  A 90 degree turn would work fine.

I think you said there was 4ft width which allows plenty of room for a double track, e.g. a passing loop.  I haven't got any major dockland stuff, I'm afraid.

As envisaged, the S & B C R has a loop at the Beachtown end and a "dead-end" terminus at Seaport with a run-around which allows the loco to run round the train to take it back to Beachtown in reverse.  With the goods sidings at each end there's also provision for shunting and making up trains.  With this set-up, it needs intervention by the operator, e.g. uncoupling locos and controlling the trains, unlike a continuous track where, to some extent, trains can be set going and left to themselves, so the end result is operating rather like a proper railway to some sort of timetable, which is OK by me so long as it's no more than, say, a half-hourly service each way.
