Some of you will remember the problem of the short passing loop on the original "round the pond" layout of the S & B C R Co.  As you can see in the photo there was limited space for the loop with the result that only trains with two carriages could be accommodated on it.

Junker Jorg, a Klickywelt friend who has a garden railway came up with this suggestion which works well and, as it involves some reversing and points operation, also adds interest to operating the line as well as allowing three coach trains or three wagons goods trains.

Here's how the system works.

Here a train has pulled into the passing loop:

as another train approaches from the Seaport terminusL

The Seaport train passes the loop:

and continues on it's way:

The train in the loop now backs up:

so it can exit the loop:

rejoin the main line:

and continue on its way:

Problem solved!

Thank you Bill and tomegood87.

I also added extra track to the Beachtown end about the same time, but I can't find the pics at them moment.

Thanks, Bill, I'm searching for the photos this morning, and a video of the train running indoors.

Wish me luck!

What a wonderful setup, Gordon!  I am glad you found such a great solution.  Goes to show that friend's suggestions can be a great help.  Hope you find the video.  Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I spent all yesterday looking for the photos (and a video), including downloading some software for retrieving deleted photos.  I ran the software on a number of photo cards without finding them.  Today, I decided to work on some photos for Diane's niece and found the ones I was wanting, and the video!  I'll start a new topic on them.
