...for a natter and a cuppa.

A natter and a cuppa? Can you explain this phrase to us not familiar with your island slang? LOLOLOL

I'm guessing cuppa = tea of coffee, but what the heck is a natter?  :-\ :hmm:

You're almost right about cuppa, Dunc, it's a cup of tea.  I don't think I've ever heard the word used with coffee though, people tend to say "We had a natter and a coffee."

Natter is to talk generally moving from topic to topic, although the Concise Oxford Dictionary also suggests it means to grumble or to talk fretfully but I've never known it used in that sense.

“Today well-lived makes every yesterday a day of happiness to remember and every tomorrow a vision of hope.”

Funnily enough, "cuppa" can now refer to either tea or coffee in Australia. We used it for both in my family and I've found several references in online dictionaries which support it. I read "a natter" to mean "a chat," because it's also fairly common slang back home. ;)

(I love talking about slang and other quirks of the English language, in case you hadn't guessed. ;D)

Unfortunatley we havent got any pictures of the meeting and i am a little bit camera shy, infact cameras dont really like me

That's a shame as I was rather curious too.  ;)

Thanks Gordon and Sylvia.  :)

You are quite right Sylvia, the english language is full of very interesting (and sometimes confusing) slang and quirks. What gets me is that most of the "rules" don't truly apply... ie: i before e except after c - what a falacy!!!! And so many words change pronounciation even though they use the same similar spellings or letter combinations (like roof and book). And of course the words with multiple meanings.

Must all be very consfusing to a non english or just learning speaker :o

Sorry to derail the thread, we can get it back on topic now  ;D

So, Tim, how is the weather?  :-[
