Yes, they do :)    The viking guy looks normal, doesn't he?

Problem is... if 2 series per year was too much... imagine FOUR.  :-\

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how to handle the normal mystery bags. I don't want all the figures. It's too much clutter and expense, when I want maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of each series.

New dollhouse also, and a transport theme
There are only 12 to a series of the Movie figures so only the equivalent of 1 extra series for the year. New shields, and many returning parts some of which I even want.

70069 Playmobil The Movie Studio Surprise Pouches 1 - 29.99 CAD
70070 Playmobil The Movie Studio Surprise Pouches 1 - 12.99 CAD

So the Movie Figures will come in blind bags, like the "normal" Surprise Figures?
Darn, then that means buying at steep ebay-prices to get the (multiple) ones you want or letting imprison yourself at night in your local toystore(s) to feelsearch all those additional surprise bags to find the right ones ...

Problem is... if 2 series per year was too much... imagine FOUR.  :-\

Indeed...

I just spotted the new calf and cow in the advent calendar 70189!

:o  I hadn't noticed - thanks :)  Can't figure out the one on the left (fight for the magic stones?), but there's a wolf, and a dragon?? I avoid advent calendars as much as possible, so much packaging!

There are only 12 to a series of the Movie figures so only the equivalent of 1 extra series for the year.

My sister mentioned that too.. You know.. there are three kinds of people - the ones that can count, and the ones who can't.  ::) :-[

Somehow my wallet doesn't seem very reassured with that.

So the Movie Figures will come in blind bags, like the "normal" Surprise Figures?

Another point my sister raised - these are not FIGURES, in the sense that they are meant to pop, are they?  Not that it really makes much difference to us...

At least, if they are normal klickys - they all seem to be, no speedos, no weirdos.. well.. there's the robot..

And.. what's with the stickers? WANT.  :-[

Those "buildings" are probably system WHY, so.. whatever. But the klickys seem ripe with potential!

I saw the pics on klickywelt, and I don't need hi res pics to see they entirely ruined the knights theme. The promo text says that the knights theme has been in Children's bedrooms for 45 years and that this year, the knights theme is the most spectacular of all time. Well, the people at Georba who announce this type of bragging marketing nonsense clearly don't know a thing about the Playmobil knights theme when you see the designs of these Fisher Price castles. Waste of time, waste of money, I stay in the second hand and DS market.

I agree the new system WHY castles (and buildings) are completely lame compared to steck or even system X.. However, I do like the klickys and stuff - though, then again, I do change most. Regardless, this is far from the golden 3666 batch of medieval, probably the best so far, as an "unchanged" and ready to play from the box - IMO, of course.

What really bothers me is the way they mean to brutalize boys and stupify girls. I find it stupid, insulting (to boys, girls AND playmobil), and sad.

Ah.. but...

The new hospital stuff... is that a fat doctor with a black guy with green... shorts? Can't see, but they both look promising...

From the house.. the fat grandfather looks good.. and is that a GREY audiobook hair on the woman (grandmother?) with the baby?

Also, the living room includes a pup and his/her bed, which I find AWESOME, for the principle of the thing.

I am still loving that house.  :-\ Not sure if I should join my wallet's prayers (to all known and just made up new gods!) that it's system WHY. Looks expensive. And not very.. workable, even if system X.

Feel like getting that red fridge and finding a CocaCola sticker for it :)

I wonder if/when proper pics/pdf of these will be released? For us to gawk at properly. Not that I won't gawk at these (well, MORE at these), but...  :P

Probably a few nice new klickies and accessories in these new sets, that´s about it.
Hopefully they won´t classify the klickies & parts which they expect to be highly wanted as "unavailable" for parts orders - as they sometimes do lately - so that one would have to buy a 100 - 150 euro crap-castle to get a single figure or part.
They should have created a seperate Fantasy Theme instead of deleting the entire classic / historical knights.

For people who are into the historical themes, good times are gone.

Looks like a sewing machine in the new dollhouse series, and a glider swing. Both great additions I think.
Only thing I noticed in the knights is the bishop's crook in brown.

You're wrong there. The good thing about history is that there is more of it each passing day! >:D

I'm quietly confident about the new "knights". With two new large "castles", there is bound to be lots of interesting new parts. Let's just wait for better pictures.

Best wishes

No more Victorian Theme, since a long time.
No more Western Theme, with the exception of an occasional limited edition release and/or a special
No more Ancient (Roman/Egyptian) Theme
A very dumbed down and partly discontinued Pirates Theme, with not a single English or French soldier anymore.
A new Medieval Knights Theme that purely reflects SF & Fantasy battles and with nothing civilian in.
Wow, we should jump from joy that those 2 new "castles" will probably contain a few nice figures or accessories?

Once one could buy a 3666 castle and be excited about the castle itself as it came and all the klickies and stuff that came with it in the box, without having to technically alter walls to be able to build something else with it.
Once one could buy a realistic looking 3940 (big) Pirates Flagship, it came with a gundeck below where you could put 8 functional cannons, a nice captain hut with real windows below the quarterdeck, good colours, quality stickers, etc. It could be used as a trading galleon or a Navy frigate with only changing out some flags.
Even when they switched to System-X, one could buy f.e. a 3112 Harbour Prison Fortress and be very happy with it, and buy more of the same set to design & build a much larger fortress.
Plastic was thick and almost unbreakable.

Now they replace the entire medieval theme(s) with some small SF/Fantasy-looking "castles" that are made from extremely large (and ever thinner) wallparts and out of which one can´t build anything else, except when he or she has craftsmanskills to technically alter those parts.
Good luck with trying to build a large complex fortress, or even a simple wall around a Medieval city, out of the parts from these new castles. Good luck with using today´s blue or pink coloured dollhouse-façade as an 18th-century Governour´s Mansion for a Carribean Island harbour-city.

With the old(er) Playmobil buildings, figures, ships, wagons, etc. & etc. one could realistically and with great detail recreate an entire panaroma of historical cities and life from the Classic Civilisations, through the Dark Ages, the Medieval Centuries & the Renaissance all the way up to the Victorian Age. That is entirely impossible with what they release these days.

And then you say I´m wrong that the Good Days are gone? Where have you been the past decades?

And yes, children are not interested in History anymore and prefer Fantasy, "smart"phones, fast (volatile) stuff.
There was a survey in Belgium a few weeks ago, most of children aged around 12-14 don´t even know who Moses was. Julius Caesar, never heard of. Napoleon? That´s that gamble-provider, right?
When people forget about history, then they´ll make the same (severe) (historical) mistakes their ancestors did.

When I was a kid, I went to school, learned about history or life in general, and replayed / recreated that at home with my Playmo.
And though I don´t go to school anymore since several decades, today I still love to recreate historical life at home with my Playmo.
But I´m getting "old" (47 next month) and to me it seems a lot of folks are too busy swiping their dumbphones and have forgotten about the "Dark Ages" (the 1930s included).
Have they meanwhile noticed that China is doing an enormous military modernisation & build-up like Japan did in the 1930s and will soon be challenging the world and the US in particular for domination of the Pacific and it´s global, strategically important trade-routes? No.
Have they meanwhile noticed that China is at the same time also investing greatly in acquiring strategically important infrastructure & econnomic assets in Europe and Africa? No.
Have they noticed the growing "populistic" political influences in the West, somewhat similar to the 1930s? No.
Have they  noticed that everything they do is being monitored, tracked and stored (by f.e. Zoogle and people like Zuckerberg), a plethora of personal data that is then sold on to governments and corporations? No.

Fantasy is great, but when you have nothing else it makes you dumb as hell.
History is great, it lets you understand the world and see how things work and how they are connected, but be carefull, if you do too much research and see/understand too much,  it makes you frustrated, like me.  ;D

True. Making (severe) mistakes is human, and idiocy & dementia (and many more gracious characteristics) are probably also. So history often repeats itself.

Thanks for the Amclicks link, I'm not a member at Klickywelt (yet).

Some of the individual figures look OK, and I'd like the food truck. I wanted to pick up one of the ones they made last year, but they didn't turn up in the UK.

Re; the shift from historical themes generally. While I don't like the newer sets, and I also sat at home and played out historical scenes with my Playmobil, we have to accept that times have changed. If I'd been born ten years later, would I have played with Playmobil or would I have played Age of Empires and The Sims instead?

I agree with you, Hadoque on your analysis of the present day, although I wouldn't necessarily believe all that surveys say on young people and their likes and dislikes and interests.

In recent months I have read the following books in the order shown:

Travellers to the Third Reich - a year by year account of the views and comments of visitors of all sorts (tourists, business people, diplomats, sports men and women, artists and writers) to Germany and non-Germans living in Germany on the rise of the extreme right wing.  It had worrying similarities to what we see now in the UK and Europe.

The War that ended Peace - an account decade by decade from about 1870 to 1914 on relations between the Great Powers and the drift towards "hard" diplomacy and brinkmanship and away from consensus diplomacy.  Again, there are worrying similarities with today.

The Age of Decadence (Britain 1880-1914) - Again, worrying similarities to today.

It's a tempting argument when you first hear it, but when you look further into it is less convincing.

On to the graph of book quantities and prices, you need to add a line showing changes in the literacy rate which was low in 1495 and was still low in the mid-19th century.  The production of a lot of books for a population that cannot read isn't going to affect public opinion much if at all.  You also need to take account of the fact that in the time span on the book graph, the graph starts at an absolutely low level for quantity and still ends at a relatively low level if you compare the starting level with the end level (sell one book one week and two the next means you have increased your sales by 100%) and also the number of books per head  books per head of population will still be relatively low.  That Luther's ideas went "viral" was because his writings were available to a small but powerful elite, notably the German princes in the north who were wanting to increase their freedom from the Pope and would lead those they ruled to do so, plus the spreading of his ideas by travelling preachers, i.e. by word of mouth rather than by written page. but even this could be controlled by the authorities by censorship and banning and burning books and arresting and punishing those producing them or spreading their ideas.  Yes, there was a peasant uprising but it was only shortlived in terms of the years of war which followed.

The period 1870/1880 to1914 saw a more widespread change with the increase in literacy and the growth of newspaper production and circulation and the realisation by newspaper publishers and by governments that through the Press you could manipulate and even create public opinion to your advantage, either by what you allowed to be published or what you prevented being published, while from the 1920s the growth of the radio added another dimension for creating, altering and controlling public opinion.

The big difference nowadays with the internet is that the influencing and creation of public opinion is less open to control, whether by governments or organisations seeking to maintain standards or by the companies or organisations providing the means to disseminate information.  Plus, the old idea that if you read it in the newspapers it must be true has been overtaken that if it's on the internet it must be true.

My Klickywelt membership has been approved!

I quite like the new Dollshouse. The only one I have is the original, but I think it has a few new parts that make it a bit more flexible? Have those half walls been made before? The right hand side also looks like it has a half height wall? I assume there will be a DS extension to provide an extra upstairs room.

Quite like the Smeg style fridge, but other than that I think the room sets could have been better without a lot of effort, since they have so many moulds now for furniture.

I certainly don´t take all surveys for granted. But I´m gonna refrain now from further debate since this is not the right topic (and forum) for it and probably I shouldn´t have written anything so off-topic in the first place in a Playmo Novelties 2019 thread.

Points taken, but by the same token your suggestion that the current period resembles the 30s also doesn't hold water. In the 30s, Europe was 1) suffering a major economic depression, 2) experiencing the aftermath of the collapse of much of the political system of central and eastern Europe (German and Austrohungarian empires, Russian revolution), and 3) burdened with conflicts unresolved or exacerbated by the peace of Versailles - just to name three major differences. The populations of Germany and Italy, among others, were prepared to try radical new approaches, and those countries soon began to agitate for territorial expansion by military means.

None of this is true today. The European-wide political order is mostly stable (Brexit notwithstanding), the economy, while not the most robust is definitely not in depression, and there are few territorial disputes among European states, and no drive for expansion - not to mention the fact that few European states have militaries that could even seriously contest such disputes. On the contrary, the one issue that is motivating the populist right parties today is immigration and declining native demographics - conditions that did not obtain to any degree in the 30s and that are producing very different responses than those times did.

There's a saying about "fighting the last war", and I think the tendency to see current times as the 30s might be an example of that, because everyone knows what SHOULD have been done in the 30s, whereas nobody really knows what the solutions are now.

To bring it back to PM somewhat, I was thinking about Hadoque's comments about the loss of more historically accurate medieval sets and continued rise of the X-TREEM style, with "power gems" now seemingly de rigueur in every new theme. I thought not only of the loss of the medieval theme as an modern expression of a specific culture (central European middle ages), but of all Playmobil from 1974 up until the Changes began as itself an expression of contemporary European culture. The early sets especially are excellent examples of the stylised, modular, futuristic sort of design that was very popular at the time they were introduced. As they became more detailed they still kept this very clean look, and the themes were generally kept to ones that had resonance for Europeans - Western sets for example are a sort of cartoony, Tin Tin style view of the American West, with accoutrements from different tribes all jumbled together. As has been pointed out, early PM was a system, and sets even from different themes still formed together a larger aesthetic whole.

With these new X-TREEM sets, and things like Ghostbusters and HTTYD and the Asian ninja theme (RIP), PM seems to me to be moving away from what made them distinct, both in design - items are becoming more elaborately detailed, the basic klicky face and form are being altered - and in theme, as the new themes often have no connection to European culture and indeed are sometimes Hollywood media properties. There's more of a sense of things clashing. So Hadoque's comments expanded for me into a larger sense of loss, of the passing of an era. :sorrow: This even as actual historical and cultural klickies like Luther and the Greek gods are snapped up ravenously by adult collectors.

All that being said, I am looking forward to better pictures of the Roman sets from the movie line!  :roman:

History is great, it lets you understand the world and see how things work and how they are connected, but be carefull, if you do too much research and see/understand too much,  it makes you frustrated, like me.  ;D

Just spent the last 7 hours "busy swiping on my dumbphone" a Kindle version of a French book on Joan of Arc because a hard copy would take weeks to get here and the internet needs accurate historical facts now!

Playmobil provides what it thinks children want, but it's not always what children want. My niece hasn't taken the slightest interest in the fairy, princess, or mermaid themes. She mostly wants more cats and hamsters. Don't we all? I'd legit buy a bulk pack of tiny animals if they offered one.

Now the dust has settled on Hadoque's annual fit triggered by the unveiling of the new products, we can proceed with the dissection. Of the products, I mean. ;D Starting, of course, with the main dish. A fresh picture shows one of the two new castles in the distance:

And there is a press release from the Toy Fair, reported, for example, here (http://www.finanztreff.de/news/pressemitteilung-mynewsdesk-playmobil-international-auf-expansionskurs-mit-bildern/15243283):

You'll manage, I suppose?

So we can watch out for the successors of the current pair 6000-6001 this August. They have long been on the shelves, since 2014 I believe, and I really did not expect another generation of large castles - more bases and take-along buildings at best. So that is a positive surprise. 6000 is a properly nice building, even kenc agrees (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=14119.msg260892#msg260892), so I am very eager to see more revealing pictures!

I better open my 6000 before August arrives. 8}

The English translation:

On the occasion of the 45th birthday of the PLAYMOBIL knights, the successful classic Ritterburg will be released in its largest and most spectacular new edition to date. In two mighty castles with creative play and defense functions as well as secret hiding places, the knights will compete for a legendary, magical armor from August 23, 2019. The reinvention of the classic promises knights in all shapes and formats and is staged at all touchpoints. Seven additional sets such as the water ball, the wolf team or the fire spirit are already in planning and bring action into play. A mystical story, original characters and clever weapons are not just for knight fans

I’m interested in seeing how this plays out

Thanks leefert! Wasserballiste is not a "water ball" but a water-throwing catapult, and a Wolfsgespann is a team of wolves yoked to a vehicle (a bit more specific than "wolf team"), but all in all the sense comes across.

To me it seems Geobra is doing to toys as the same thing Mercedes did to cars. Over engendered. I know they have some of the most sophisticated dual color, moving parts in one pass, dual-consistencie  plastic injection machines in the world but when is it enough. Mercedes made a great car and just could not stop in the engineering department, rendering the car near impossible to work on.

Me too! Less golden than the 6000s, which is a plus.

I see a new release of the non-chrome nuremberg guard helmets, only once seen in a Nordsee exclusive and now rare. This is reason for joy. Otherwise a lot of repeated parts, but that can be expected in such a well-trodden field.

I try to work out more about the 'benign' castle, shown in the distance. Three storeys, cool. Is the gate a repeat of the 4866? If so, the shape for the heraldry is different ... I just cannot tell. Exciting!

Castle 3269 was ugly as hell, and this one is not much better. But it´s probably supposed to represent just that; Lucifer´s holdout. And that´s probably about it what you can do with it.
http://www.playmodb.org/setpics/3/3269.jpg

Castle 6001 on the contrary, the red colour of the drawbridge aside and although certainly a far cry from the Steck League, is (was) much nicer and much more versatile for use in other themes & settings.

Once the pictures are available on the official website (not necessarily the sets, just the pictures, behind the scenes) I copy them and create the sets to go with. Here's what I have so far. I've borrowed the German and/or Spanish names posted in the forums since I had to call them something! The ones without pictures, I found stickers for, in a parts-hunt. (more info on 70046 or 70168, anyone?) You can sort by theme or several other factors, at the top of the page. Enjoy!

The hat´s "tentacles" can be breakable in a child´s hands, so I fear it might come in the softer rubbery plastic which will mean less durable over time ...

Here are the August and September releases.

Thank you :)

I wonder if the Jester´s hat will come in hard or soft plastic.
The hat´s "tentacles" can be breakable in a child´s hands, so I fear it might come in the softer rubbery plastic which will mean less durable over time ...

Wouldn't surprise me... Have you FELT the new dragon spears? Ridiculous. I still say that if people are stupid enough to harm themselves with those... LET THEM.  >:D  Natural selection and all.

Chief Arsonist / Lucifer´s Dad

   >:D
WANT.

Are those doors compatible with steck? Or the first System X castles?

As to the knight sets..

Castles are not a possibility - though I want the klickys (mostly the fire ones), a few parts (those odd dragon cannons are nice) and the baby dragon AND THAT HORSE most of all.   (oh, and is that a GREY dwarf beard on the "water" castle?)

I think that arch is beautiful.. except the pinkish background on that Glaive-like thing..  (how many years before we get a GREY or WHITE wizard?!)..

The mega-automatic-ballista thing is as ridiculous as before..  Though I like the guy with the plans!

The wolf drawn fire brigade... words fail me. Though I like the stuff on the wolves, and MUST have the woman (are those NEW wolves? Tiermann?)

The dragon catapult thingy is also.. meh... But I want the dragon (duh), and the flying guy.. And that fire flail thing..

The fire ghost is creepy. A match for the green blob, my sister thinks. I like the guy though - did you see his RED braid, Luftgaengerin?  ;D

The joker with the fireworks.. awesome! I was afraid they'd be stuck in the castle set..

The guy with the wolf is nice too... New interesting face, I think :)  (the stuff on the wolf looks stupid, imo, but that is very easy to sort... EXTRA silly things are easy to handle - examples: space cannnos on the polar sets and soldiers on the hay cart).

I certainly hope it’s hard plastic, I want this set x5

I was surprised by the tommy gun that came with the mafia special had both soft and hard plastic . Was it do you could eat it with out it lodging in your throat?

There's a strong possibility of new wolves but with the image colors all over the place I wouldn't commit to any until we see proper box back or not photoshopped pictures of them. Or of course part numbers.

Arsonists vs Hydrophilics, not bad. For once a proper polarity, after many random opposing pairs (lions:dragons, 3268:3269; lions:falcons, 4865:4866 and again 6000:6001).

I refuse to call this *theme* the Knights Theme.  This is verging into Steampunk territory.  Clearly the new "Faux-Knights" and the Playmo Movie sets are being influenced by the success of the Lego Movies.  Mashing genres together, making it look "cool" with lots of 'splosions and fighting!  Ugh, so not where I want my Playmobil to go.  On the other hand, as I close in on 50, I can identify with the Dad/Kid dynamic at the end of the Lego movie.  I get that Playmobil is primarily selling to kids not adult collectors. Still disappointed though.

All, in all, I think there are some cool pieces in the new sets (both "Fuax-Kinghts" and Playo Movie sets) but I there's not much there to excite me as a whole.

Oh, well.

Nice to see the return of two of the original medieval hats - the jester hat in black and the robin hood hat in blue with yellow? feather. I'm pretty much done with new sets these days but lots of interesting parts coming out. I agree that this is not a knights theme.

While the theme overall has a nice fantasy feel to it, some things are just silly like the landing ramp on the castle and the giant crossbow stuck on the side of the cart, along with the gripper thing. The wolf team pulling the catapult would have looked so much better as a pair of oxen - even if they were black ox with red eyes and horns or somesuch.

Thanks for pointing out they´re already shown in the shop.
I was told a few days ago they would come in blind bags, but I wasn´t 100% sure if they were to be assembled like the Surprise Figures.

So 3 euro per klicky (in DE) for a Movie Figure instead of 2 euro (in DE) like for the Surprise Figures.
And release of the first batch Movie Figures in June, a month later Surprise Figures Series 16 ... Collecting Playmo becomes exhausting, for the wallet and soon mentally & physically as well  8}

Some prices are OK, actually.

70076: four clowns, two statues with pedestals and an bit of architecture ("Colosseum") for 20 € (probably less in the shops), is manageable.

70070: one guy with a plastic bag for 10 €, not.

I just looked through the entire German online catalogue, and I noticed that except for the limited editions refurbished little take-along island and little green vessel also based on an earlier mold, the entire Pirates Theme is gone !!!!!

 :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit:

For the first time since 1978 there is NO BIG PIRATES SHIP ANYMORE !!

:hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit:

That´s like the Knights (or Arsonists) Theme would not have a castle anymore at all !!

Not sure if the movie figures are assemble or pre-made. Do see that Mel has a burrito (repurposed rolled newspaper), and kind of love the green and gold Aztec type figure. Also the farmer has interesting color hair and beard.

Main photos for the dollhouse are on the German website now too

I'll be getting that emperor but his head is getting removed instantly. The movie face looks awful. Also not interested in the other three figures, so I'll have spares for anyone who wants them.

Am I looking at the picture correctly: they have two horses pulling a chariot...which is pulling a wagon?  ???

I think you're right, the chariot is pulling the cart as a kind of trailer. The trailer also has something underneath that looks like a numberplate with the EU flag on it plus a black lead/harness thing.

Enjoy!

No, I mentioned (I think) that my sister pointed that out - we thought it was not "figures" (not that it really makes a difference)..

Actually, I find it a bit odd.. then again, probably works better than the figures - at least only the robot is not compatible, and since they seem to have plenty of weirdos in the movie...  :P

Edit: Not very sure they're figures.. that first paragraph is obviously a left over copypaste from the normal figures:

Quote
12 Movie-Charaktere zum Sammeln

1 aus 24 Überraschungstüten mit PLAYMOBIL-Figures in Einzelteilen!
Jede Serie Boys/Girls enthält jeweils 12 verschiedene Figuren.
Zum Zusammenbauen, Sammeln oder Mixen von Köpfen, Körpern, Beinen und vielen anderen Teilen!
Wieder zerlegen - anders kombinieren - endloser Spielspaß, jeden Tag neu!

- HINWEIS:

Seeing as this was one of the original themes , yes it’s concering .

I am just hoping Geobra is planning on releasing a new pirate theme once they deplet the current stock , with out fantasy elements ( but I would probably have better luck having my farm struck my a golden meteorite)

What should I say? There was a pirate element in Super 4 (didn't you like the house?), there is now the take-away tavern, and there will some piracy as Movie sets, I assume. So, they haven't given up on the theme altogether. You are right that there is a hole where there used to be a large ship ... Perhaps, just perhaps ... 3940 will be released as a Classic? It has happened to the Schooner ... :crossed:

The 6678 is still available. Maybe they're taking a step back from the pirate theme to rethink it and maybe they are planning something new for next year.

Sales must be an influence as well. Is the theme selling as well as it used to or are kids less interested by pirates now that there's no new Disney pirate movie?

With the death of the knights theme which has been around since the beginning the ship is just another casualty. As everyone else has said though, it's likely a temporary hole and there are ships in the HTTYD range though they're fantasy - just like the whole knights theme has been replaced with fantasy.

Without a DECENT ship, pirates become just landrats and have no reason for existance.   :(

3940 (= 3286 for USA) as a Classic Edition? Hmm...
Perhaps without klickies and accessories and canons, otherwise I think it would be very expensive for a Direct Service set...

Yes, 6678 is still available, but when it is not mentioned/shown anymore in the German catalogue, I think that means they´re just selling out their stock. And the US & other foreign countries´ catalogues run always 1 year behind the German & Benelux-countries ones, discontinued sets are 1 year longer available outside the "home" market (and usually sets & themes are also realeased 1 year later on the "foreign" markets).

Also, 6678 is a very dumbed down big ship; it comes without cabin, with a tiny cargo-hold, with stickers as fake-cabinwindows,  very fake stick-on canonports, etc.
Sales of that one will probably be WAY down when compared with the sales of it´s predecessor-ships.
Myself for instance, I bought more then a "dirty dozen" of the 3940-flagship released in 2000 and also of the 5135-variant released in 2011. What the silly 6678 is concerned, I bought ... just 1. So sales are certainly down in my area!

I always hoped there would come a sequel to the movie "Master & Commander - The Far Side of The World" with Russel Crow, the end of the film left an opening to a sequel and there were some rumours once, but it never materialised...
Title: Re: New stuff 2019
Post by: Hadoque on February 01, 2019, 19:10:23
it's likely a temporary hole

I hope so.
But there never have been breaks with the other main themes, except for the Western Theme that came back from death but only for a short while. The Victorian Theme is dead & burried, the Trains Theme is dead & burried, etc.
And there has f.e. never been a year without a decent castle in the catalogue for the Knights Theme. Though one now can indeed regard the Knights Theme as gone as well, at least it´s classic interpretation.

The Schooner they could sell because it was so rare generally - the various big pirate ships are easily available on the seoncd hand market, so it might be hard for them to compete with that. I assume that's why a lot of the Victorian sets have never appeared in the DS selection (though on the other hand they haven't issued the small-but-rare Victorian sets so who knows....)

I did wonder about that. What seems to be interesting is that there is no indication of 70151/ Pirate ship with engine wherever in the new catalogue (nor the Galaxy Police) or I still have to find it. Funnily enough they are re-creating the pirate area in Zirndorf so we have a contradiction. Then again they also have a Western area though hardly a massive Western portfolio. Anyway maybe they have changed their strategy and announce some more sets during the course of the year.

Judging by the releases of past years that might well be so. I gave up on expecting anything of what we have seen in the 80s or the 90s. Am I disappointed? Not really. I rather focus on smaller sets like the Rembrandts or the Gingerbread Guy. Beautiful sets - totally unexpected but lovely to look at. Are there any pirate portraits in the Amsterdam museum by any chance? :D

Here´s a (copy of a) painting of the Dutch admiral Piet Hein. Though not a "true pirate", he captured the Spanish Silverfleet in 1628 and was regarded by them as a kind of pirate, just like England´s Sir Francis Drake in the 16th century.
Not sure if this painting is in any museum or in someone´s private collection.

https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet_Hein_(zeevaarder)#/media/File:Piet_Hein.jpg

And another famous Dutch admiral, Michiel de Ruyter. Not a pirate but he did battle the English on many occasions. No clue if any paintings about him are on display in the Rijksmuseum.

http://www.historien.nl/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Michiel-de-Ruyter.jpg

There´s a nice movie about Michiel De Ruyter & his adventures from 2015, very cool with great scenes for those who love 16th/17th/18th-century seabattles, here´s the offical trailer from back then;

My guess is we’ll see a pirate theme re-boot next year.

A friend of mine visited the Nürnberg Toyfair on Saturday, and I asked him to inform there with Geobra if there still would still be a (true) Pirates Ship, and this is the answer he got from Playmobil;

"At present there will be no more Pirates Ship as we shift our focus to the Movie Theme and the growing (hum) Knights Theme."

Considering how completely in the dark the several departments are, I would not take that very seriously... Then again... who knows..

Horst would not have stood for these Shenanigins!

While that PM pirate ship is still sailing the seven seas (remember? The one launched by some children) there is hope that Geobra will be reminded that this iconic toy is still in the memories of many people!

You hit the nail with your custom made Klicky.

Because such a statement has never been made before in the past 40 years...
I work for a world wide operating company and we have to follow a strictly defined code of conduct why I understand how to look at such a statement. ;) There were times when the company stood for no arms and and all that but that was then.

Horst would not have stood for these Shenanigins!

Though I have neither met Horst nor Hans you might be very close to the point.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the pirate theme was axed for the forseeable, BUT they're hardly going to say to someone at the Toy Fair 'Oh, don't worry, we're having a huge relaunch of the pirate theme in March 2020 but please don't tell anyone'

We may be proven wrong in March 2020  ;D but chances are 50/50. They are about to restyle the pirate theme in Zirndorf with two new ships and a lagoon which makes me wonder.

  I would never dream of such a use for Hiccup's torso (gorgeous parts, shame about the darn metal foot - and the odd boot on the other side, while I am at it)

They are about to restyle the pirate theme in Zirndorf with two new ships and a lagoon which makes me wonder.

That makes little sense to me if they planned to end the pirate theme.. then again, it's playmobil we're talking about, anything is possible, I guess...

While we are on the topic of Funpark and released sets - the dino theme this last year has the temple structure in it - the same temple  there is a physical structure of in the Zirndorf Funpark right next to where they have the dinosaur land models. Coincidence it shows up in the related theme? I don't think so.
I do wonder if one of the new pirate ships at Zirndorf might end up being a version of the Chameleon in pirate mode?? And if there is a pirate ship in the movie that they might be doing as well?
Also - there are 2 series of figures with the Movie theme, might be plans for a second release of bigger sets next year as well if it goes over well enough. There are 3 series of Super 4 so far, though not a new one of those this year I notice.

There are rumours that the Movie figures series 1 are available in Benelux! I will check the shops this week!

I just took a closer look at the figures, did anyone else notice as well that the prints on the figures (and I'm talking about the clothing, not the faces) are also "cartoonish"? Now I'm doubting this will fit (after replacing the heads with normal heads) together with the other Playmobil klickies...

They are giving the movie figures with the meals at the funpark. Series 1+2. There is no understanding them..

I wonder how long the historical themes are going to be heavily influenced by this comic book weirdness. :hmm: Lego has been doing this nonsense for a few years, which is why I turned to Playmobil. I'm trying to buy up all of the good Playmobil sets now while they're still available because I'm afraid this weird phase is going to last a long time. :-\

These days, nothing sells unless it's related to comic books or some well known 1980s franchise like Star Wars or Ghostbusters. I love original, realistic, historic stuff.

I was just looking over all the new stuff coming out soon, and the only thing that I find appealing is the Indian chief with the peace pipe. The new pirates aren't as bad as the knights sets, but they're pretty goofy looking with strange colors (a brown table, but with a green bench?)

Meanwhile I had a look on Klickywelt past night, and today on Fakebook.

I must say I´m not impressed at all by the new Pirates´s Theme/sets. Klickies (especially soldiers) look like cheap rip-offs of earlier versions and especially the "new big ship" is a huge disappointment. What a rubbish compared with previous renewals of the theme.
The "big ship" has it´s ancestry in the 3550/3750 ships, but is much closer to the cheap 4424/5736 version once developed for the US Target stores.

Concerning all the rest, some interesting stuff, but way too many Surprise/Mystery stuff, not just in bags anymore but now even in boxes. Over a period of a little more then 6 months we will get:

1) Movie Figures - Series 2 (December 19) - 12 figures in surprise bags
2) Surprise Figures - Series 17 (January 19) - 24 figures in surprise bags
3) Everdreamerz Mystery Boxes (first half 2020)  - 12 figures in surprise boxes (in addition to the 5 main "non-mystery" ones)
4) Scooby Doo Mystery Ghosts - Series 1 (first half 2020)  -12 figures in surprise bags
5) Surprise Figures - Series 18 (July 2020) - 24 figures in surprise bags

Are they soon going to turn all sets into mystery sets/bags of which one has to guess the contents??  :hmm:

For people who don't know playmobil they might be disappointed to open a blind bag and find that the arms are straight instead of all those bent positions being shown on the packet.

That's a good point, Hadoque.

In 2019, 72 figures in "blind bags" (2 sets of boys fi?ures, 2 sets of girls, 2 sets of Movie figures)
In 2020, 84 figures in blind bags/boxes (2 sets of boys, 2 sets of girls, 2 sets of Scooby figures, at least one set of Everdreamerz)

I can see I am going to have to be selective about what I buy!

Thanks for making the sums.

In 2018 and the years before (since the introduction of the Surprise Figures) there were only 48 figures a year (2x 12 figures Series Boys, 2x 12 figures Series Girls). So the "surprises" are going up steeply since this year!
Concerning total numbers of "surprise/mystery figures" for 2020, we don´t know yet the novelties for the 2nd half of next year.  ;)
