It's the dutch version of saint nicholas bishop of myra. The 5th of december is his memorial day and it's custom here in the netherlands kids get presents. Come to think of it he arrivee officially in the metherlands this weekend with his steamboat.  :)

Count Bogro, thanks for the you tube link, it was fun to watch Sinterklaas' arrival.  I had no idea there were so many Zwarte Piet characters.  Alas that Playmobil did not give us a different outfit for him this year, although I am sure many of you will customize yours.  For now, I will have twin ZwartePiets.    It was fun to see the children's costumes, and the Sinterklaas flags waving.

Humhum....
1) He is also the belgian version of Saint Nicholas!  ;)
2) And he arrived in Belgium as well; past weekend in the harbour of Antwerp!  ;D

Our boat was a bit bigger, though I must admit the dutch one looks better  ;D

3) His memorial day is not the 5th, but the 6th of December. You dutch guys allways are a bit too early, aren't you...  ;D

On the eve of the 5th, the Dutch indeed celebrate "pakjesavond" (presents-evening), the belgian kids just put a shoe with a wishlist (and a carot for the horse) in front of the chinmney and wait till the next morning, because - as the story is told - Sinterklaas comes during that night through the chimneys of houses where kids live to bring them gifts (if they have been behaving good the past year; the ones that didn't get nothing and are put in Black Peter's bag!  :o  )

Thanks for the information. I have purchased one to go on the Christmas layout.
Using parts from the lighthouse set to make a dock for it and a crane to load the boat..

Yes, I believe it was. It was the boat in the 5131 set. It was the exact same body, just a different paint job. :)

Well of course its a different day in the Netherlands. How else can he deliver all those gifts in time if he needs to deliver presents to all Dutch children and all Belgian children in one night?  :)
